Bob Keeshan - Captain Kangaroo Have you ever wondered which television show was as enlightening to your parents as Sesame Street and Barney were to some of us' The answer would probably be Captain Kangaroo. It was about a man who lived in a house with lots of wonderful and exciting creatures, animation, and props. The main character was Captain Kangaroo, played by Bob Keeshan. Besides playing in a famous kid show, Bob was known for his educational books to parents about kids. In these books it let us know about him. The reason why we should know Bob is for his importance of reading, doing activities, and spending time with their children. The most important point Bob emphasizes in most of his books is for parents to read to their children. Bob illustrates that parents should not think of reading as a routine job, but the parents should look at story time as taking their children on a discovery voyage into exciting and new places. Mr. Keeshan stated, “start reading to children at birth to make books and stories an important part of their life and send a message of self worth (Books to Grow By pg10).
