With the increasing popularity of the Internet in recent years, more people are doing their shopping online than ever before. Without the need to go shopping in physical stores outside, people can purchase whatever they like on the Internet just by clicking the mouse and they can pay online as well. After they successfully make a deal, their purchased goods will be delivered at their front door several days later. Due to its popularity, online shopping will continue to grow.
However, some people have personally suffered a lot from online shopping for a number of reasons like the incredibility of online stores, the inadequate and inaccurate information provided by online stores, the low quality of online goods, the incidence of hacker invasion etc (Penez, Selin. 2015). Even though the initial stages of online shopping have been rough, it is still a better option than physical stores. There is no doubt that I am personally in favor of the latter option that online shopping is absolutely a wiser choice for people and it should be preserved, which will be elaborated on in the following.
First and foremost comes that online shopping is not as time and energy consuming as physical stores so that people can save time and energy for other important issues (Nai-Hua Chen. 2015). While shopping online, people can get themselves out of the exhausting journey of searching for the goods and they do not need to carry the purchased goods back home, which will really cost them a lot of time and energy. Online shopping saves a lot of time for both students and teachers. This time can be spent doing something a lot more important and useful. Time is a resource that people have less and less. Saving as much of it as possible is good. Online shopping really saves time.
With online shopping being both less time- and energy-consuming than physical stores, what comes next is that online shopping has no limit in the goods categorization, the purchasing time and place so that people can have more freedom when they choose to shop online (Carr Austin. 2015). That is to say, when people choose online shopping, they can buy everything at home ranging from small items such as clothes and books to large ones like computers at the same time. But if people prefer purchasing all kinds of products in physical stores, they have to go to different stores for different products as many physical stores have their own main products and they only sell limited products within. Also, people can conduct their purchasing behaviors at anytime and anywhere as long as they have access to the Internet. They can go online shopping at home, in the office or any other place where they can be able to have access to the Internet. They do not have to worry that the stores will put up the shutters and they cannot get what they want. Online shopping can provide greater availability for people to get their desired goods.
One of the upsides of online shopping is that online shopping has developed so rapidly that it has been able to reach products from all over the world, which has enabled people to consume products from foreign countries without bothering to go personally to those countries (Carr Austin. 2015). That is to say, the Internet has shortened the distance between manufacturers and consumers and thus people can even buy goods in other countries through the Internet. They can save a large sum of money which should have spent on their journey to foreign countries in many ways and they will be quite tired after their trips back and forth. They have to be on time for their plain and they cannot have regular meals as usual. When they arrive, they have to hurry to the stores and they have to come back on time for their work. Once people place their order, they don’t need to go through any more trouble. It is pretty convenient for people to select the way of online shopping so that they can wonderfully omit a series of troubles when they choose to go shopping in physical stores. International shopping becomes prevalent with online shopping.
Another advantage of online shopping is that it can enable people to purchase their desired products with a cheaper price so that it can save people some money (Mahnke, Rolf. 2015). When people shop online, they can look for the lowest price. Though the price difference may not be large for only a product, it will make sense in the long run as people will keep shopping online for many other products in approaching days. If they continue to take this method to shop online, they can save more and more money with the accumulation of more and more goods. Long term speaking, people can surely form a habit of saving money and they will in the meantime have a sense of being economic for other aspects in their daily life. Under the influence of such thought, they will not waste either money or any other resources, like water, food and something else like that. They will learn that nothing in the world is limitless and everything in the world will be used up one day, so what they should do is to try their best to save it as much as possible in order not to be confronted with the situation where there is no resource to use. Such an industrious and economical awareness can to a large degree influence people’ life and it will play a more and more important role in people’s life in the future.
Besides, online shopping can cater to the requirements for some special groups of people, such as some old people who do not have enough energy to go outside, some disabled people who cannot go outside without the accompanying of others, some working people who have no time to go shopping in person due to too heavy work burdens as well as other special groups of people (Khim-Yong Goh. 2015). Without online shopping, these special groups of people cannot go shopping on their own or even if they can there will be much dangers involved. So those special groups of people have to depend on others to help purchase what they need and they can only wait for others to buy their daily necessities for them.
If others are not at hand, they may have no chance of using the products but suffer instead. But when online shopping is available, these special groups of people can buy whatever they need on the Internet on their own without bothering others to help them and they can carry out such purchasing behaviors whenever and wherever they like. In a sense, online shopping has contributed more or less to the easier daily life of those special groups of people. Furthermore, online shopping can help increase those special groups of people’s confidence and their self-esteem in that those special groups of people will not focus on their incapability as much as in the past (Khim-Yong Goh. 2015). In the opposite, they may think that they are as competent as ordinary people as they can also purchase their daily necessities on their own. So they can depend on themselves more and more and they do not need to rely on others too much in their daily life. Or maybe it can be put in another way that those special groups of people will hold that others may not look down upon them anymore and they will gradually increase the confidence to live a happy life ever after. I can say that online shopping is really an inevitable part for those special groups of people and it has changed those people’s life much.
Having discussed the endless benefits that can be brought to consumers by online shopping, the countless advantages as can happen to the retailers will follow. When talking about the advantages of online shopping toward retailers, what comes first is that some retailers do not have to rent a house as their store from time to time and they do not have to spend money on employees compared with the traditional trade mode (Mahnke, Rolf. 2015). In this way, those retailers can run their business with fewer expenses involved so that they can make higher profits in the end. What’s more, as those retailers do not need to rent a house as their store, they do not need to decorate the store and they can concentrate more on how to run their business so that they can serve the customers better in order to make more money in the end.
Without extra money spent on renting the house and decorating the store, the retailers can save more energy to reflect on how to attract the attention of more customers so that they can achieve higher profits in the end. In the meanwhile, without extra money spent on renting the house and decorating the store, the retailers can provide customer with a lower price, which can in turn benefit the customers in one way or another. You don’t have to have a million dollar loan to start a business. You can start a business with nothing. Individuals who just want to sell their stuff can also use web sites like eBay. So the opportunities created by online shopping are not limited to big corporations. Start-up companies and individuals can also take advantage of it.
Conclusion
To sum up, online shopping is really a wiser choice for the great majority of people for its endless benefits for both the consumers and the retailers. But what has to be mentioned is that people should be well aware of the credibility of online stores before they choose to buy things online and it is urgent to regulate some relative laws in accordance with the rapid growth of online shopping. Only by the above methods can people enjoy the pleasure and convenience of online shopping without any fear that we may be cheated.
