The Introduction of Thebes

The eastern coast of Thebes was the religious and political center in the ancient Egyptian, where it boasts of the famous temples of Karnak and Luxor and palaces. Of which the temple of Karnak is one of the largest remaining ancient temples in the world. Throughout the west bank of Thebes, there spreads many tombs for the pharaohs and their queens from 18th to 20th dynasties. They are known as "the valley of the Kings” and “the valley of the Queens". The ancient city of Thebes and tomb sites are the historical testimony of high development of the ancient Egyptian civilization.

Thebes is an ancient city full of magic colors and its vicissitudes is said of a miniature of the rise and fall of ancient Egypt. In the ancient kingdom of Egypt when the pharaoh Meng chose Thebes as a site for the capital, he made Ammon serve as "the king of the gods". Since then it started construction spree for Ammon god, for which Thebes became so famous. In the later days by several invasions, Thebes was gradually declining. In 27 BC, an earthquake struck Thebes and made some remaining memorial architectures collapse completely. By the 19th century, only a heap of Thebes’s ruins became a paradise for the tomb robbers. Nowadays in the areas of Luxor and Karnak in Egypt, some broken walls of Thebes’s ruins also can be seen.
