Journal 1 Korea

When it comes to Korea, it mainly refers to Korean peninsula located in the northeast of Asia, neighboring China in land, and Japan to its south. The peninsula contains two countries, North Korea and South Korea, geographically divided by the latitude 38°N, also referring to a military line. Historically, peninsula was under the domination of a united country dating back to four thousand years ago, until Japanese invasion and colonial in 1910, forcing it to give up its suzerain, or metropolitan relationship with China. After the end at World War Two at 1945, under the treaty of Yalter Conference organized by Soviet, America and Britain on how to divide the world, the peninsula was no longer a nation but divided by two countries, with the north backed by Soviet and the south by America. In 1950, Korean war broke out. As the United States intervened in the war and offered the south military assistance, the north lost much of its ground and was forced to retreat to the Yalu River, the border between China and North Korea. Apparently, it threatened China’s border safety. Then China voluntarily allied with North Korea and fought back against the United States. In 1953, both sides reached a truce in which latitude 38°N was referred as the border and military line between the two countries. Both countries shared common culture in many ways, especially language, clothes and food, even though they might bear hostility against each other. Due to a close tie with China in the history, Koreans culture shares some similarity with Chinese, but also forms its own feature.  Traditionally, Koreans wear Han Bok, featuring itself with vivid color and no pockets, which could date back to Chinese Han Dynasty. Koreans adopt Han Gul, which is referred to as the world’s most scientific writing system by BBC. When it comes to food, Kimchi, Galbi, Jap Chae and Bulgogi remain on the list of the table menu in Korea.
