1. Confirmation bias means people may choose to process the information to be supportive to his own beliefs. When dealing with the various facts, especially the ambiguous messages, people have the tendency to use the part which is relative beneficial to themselves to prove that they are on the right side.

 
2. The main reason for confirmation bias is the nature of human beings. People loves the feeling of getting an affirmative and confirmation. The confirmation of their beliefs can give them the sense of achievements. In this technological day and age, we are more susceptible to it since the technology makes it easier to prove our faith and beliefs. For example, we can use the IT technology to easily search and even “create” a picture or an article that can prove our perspectives.

3. In modern times, confirmation bias is more prevalent among the public. Human beings tend to show their decisions and choices are correct. In fact, we are “vulnerable” to confirmation bias on various occasions like in the courtroom, the debating competition and so on. 

When I try to write a paper to state my viewpoints which remains to be discussed, I will naturally choose the reference on my side and filter the information which is opposite to my statement.


4. In the paper of why do so many reasonable people doubt science written by Joel Achenbach, confirmation bias is described in details and examples. The Ebola virus was described as the “supernatural powers” which can kill all the people by saboteurs. They spread untrue messages on the internet to cover the fact that Ebola virus spread only by direct contact with bodily fluids.

To avoid lying in our comfort zone of “confirmation bias”, we must update our mind and get more exposure to controversial information, specially the opposite viewpoints.
Besides, we should be more objective and rational when processing the information and making decisions.
