What did you learn about enslavement and women?

How do you understand and interpret Harriet's sense of her morality of her decisions (be specific about which of her several decisions you are discussing from the assigned chapters)? [For example, I once had a student write that she felt Linda's decision to bear children was "selfish."]

     Though I have long known that slaves and women were leading miserable lives before their emancipation, this novel gave me a detailed description of the life of a slave using a first person narrative. Before, I didn’t imagine the slave can live a relatively comfortable life, but the beginning of the story shows that the fates of the slaves vary from person to person, which mainly depends on the owner of the slave. Still, however kind the owner is, the slave is a property instead of person to them, due to the limitations of the specific times. In Chapter V, Linda’s meek character is revealed through her decision of not telling her grandma all the wrongs she have suffered and continuing to stomach his master’s maltreat quietly. Even so, she would use “spirited” to describe her grandma’s struggle with unfair treatments with a praising tone. All of these express Harriet’s sense of justice.
