In February of 2010, a federal law was passed in Germany aiming to censor child pornography from the Internet in February, 2010. In June, 2009, the German parliament passed a bill imposing censorship of pornographic websites after German government signed a contract with internet providers to filter websites in April. Early in Jan, German officials already called for ISP censorship of offensive sites so as to stop the spread of child pornography. Under the law, ISPs are required to intercept those requests with a sign that reminds users that child pornography is illegal. However, the law confronted strong protest from internet users because they see it as a way to prevent their freedom of speech, political expression or even access to information.
