1. Introduction

With the development of various digital technologies, more and more types of games have been developed. The themes of the game become diverse too.Among these various types of games, war game is distinctive.

In this paper, we make the definition of the war game after the researches of relevant information and games. We consider that the war game is a game which associates with war themes, simulates professional military accomplishment and missions and makes them playable.The content of the war game includes: military strategy simulation, simulation of tactical moves, weapons simulation, war simulation and so on.

Unlike other types of games which are designed freely and creatively, the content, game tasks and interactive designed of the war game are limited by the authenticity and documentary of the wars.The performance of the war game should accurately meet the logicof wars.Meanwhile,the war game players need to master a few of certain military senses to complete the high specializedvirtual military tasks.

As the war game is more real and professional than other types of games, and most of the players do not experience the war, the war game will make the player feel novel, exciting and real. To many players, the war game is more attractivethan others. This is the reason wechoose this concept over another concept.

2. Research

The war game has more than 30 years of history, the tank combat simulation game ‘Army Battlezone’ (Fig.1) is considered to be the first war games developed in 1980.

At the DOS time, the picture of the game was relatively simple. There werejust a few simple lines or color in the screen.Players needed to use the virtual tank aiming window to target and destroythe enemy tanks.

The early 1990s, the use of 3D graphics technology improvedthe picture of the game.During the time, the class of simulation war games appeared. America developed several simulation war games of handing main battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, fighter jets, submarines, aircraft carriers and other large equipment.

The masterpieceof the earlysimulation war games was a series of games developed by Jean`s company. ‘Jane's Longbow’, ‘M1A2 tanks’, ‘F15 strike’(Fig.2) were the masterpiece of simulation war games in the 1990s.

The military originally designed and developed these games for military training purposes, so they firstly developed the games to simulate such weapons.These military simulators were the foundationof the same type gamesdeveloped. And based on these simulators, the game art style, interface, operation of the war games had a basic orientation.

Into the mid-1990s, First-Personal Shooting Gamewasdeveloped and improved.The famous game ‘Delta Force’ (Fig.3) was developed in 1998 according to the same nameAmerican troops. The games were very popular because of its realistic imitation battlefield terrain and extensive military equipment.

The ‘Delta Force' makes the army realize the positive effect for military.

In the 21st century, the army began to develop the war gamesfor its ownspecial needs.Because many soldiers were growing up by playing game consoles, so a good war game could attract young people to join the armyeffectively. ‘America's Army’ (Fig. 4), which was developed in 2002, was a masterpiece of this game type.[[2]]

So, the promotionof military is another reason to make the war game successful.

The most important concept to design a war game is to make the game real. To make this as a standard, we can design a good war game.

3. Design considerations

We can implementtheconcept of the war game with the following elements.[[3]]

We can develop a good war game by making all of the elements real.
