Leveraging the banking and payment expertise, Wells Fargo was able to deploy its premium payment processing and customer support infrastructure involving millions of dollars of hardware and software investment and hundreds of people, and years of payments experience, to ensure the secure and efficient completion of each transaction. Entering into this long-term relationship with Billpoint helped Wells Fargo to moves into online payment space and increase the brand’s influence and spread the brand image.

Doosan Fuel Cell America and Wells Fargo

A strategic alliance happened more recently with Wells Fargo Financial Service is its strategic alliance with Doosan Fuel Cell America, which just took place in June 2017. Doosan Fuel Cell America, Inc., abbreviated "Doosan", is a subsidiary of Doosan Corporation focused on the manufacture and sale of reliable, clean, and efficient fuel cells.

Wells Fargo Equipment Finance provides competitive floating-rate and fixed-rate loans and leases covering a diverse set of commercial equipment used for businesses worldwide as well as inventory financing and floor planning, and vendor programs in several industries in both United States and Canada. The strategic alliance with Doosan Fuel Cell America to broaden its business scope and more specifically to grow Fuel Cell businesses (Doosan Fuel Cell America, Inc., 2017).

The strategic alliance between Wells Fargo with both Doosan Fuel Cell America and ebay demonstrates Wells Fargo’s management strategies, capturing the opportunities of strategic alliances to broaden business scope and grow the businesses in emerging industries. However, potential drawbacks associated with strategic alliance should also be taken into consideration. This includes lack of control, merged reputations, and greater liabilities. Trust and collaboration are really essential in forming a successful strategic alliance.
