Introduction

It had been long years that slaves are under the pressure of being exploited. They are arbitrarily occupied by the planter. They construct considerable benefits for the planter but have no rights to share the benefits, even don’t have the basic rights for freedom. This is an extremely unfair society. Where there is oppression there is resistance. In order to resist slavery, many defiance are happened to defend the rights of slaves. All these contends lay the foundation to the success of breaking up slavery. In this paper, I will represent the scene from the existence of slaves, the living condition of slaves to the withstanding of slavery. According to the paper, we will have a deeper impression of the history of American.

Statement:

Slavery is originated from South America. At the initial, Africans are sent to South America. As they had no means of production, they survive themselves by laboring to the planter. Forced by higher benefits, the planters further exploit Africans and let them work all the life. Then, slavery formed [5]. Here, we can answer the first question: as slaves don’t have the means of production, they must depend on the planters to live. It gives the planter the chance to control slaves. The planter consider that slaves just could derive a very small part of the reward created by them, because they just paid the labor. However, the most important part, means of production, is provided by themselves. So, they consider it a reasonable way to deal with the slavery relationship. However, from the slaves’ respect, the benefit they had created are far more than the part that merely maintains life. Besides, they have the right of freedom and don’t need to be slave all the life.

There is no doubt that the conditions the slaves live is very bad. In the picture The Slave Auction [4], slaves are sent to the supermarket. They are treated as distress merchandise. In the eye of the buyer, they are the same as goods, maybe treat them just like animals. Their eyes were in eclipse and despair. The buyers could deal with them arbitrarily. No one care about whether they are happy. Even, no one care about whether they are sick. The planter could buy them from market, or sell them again if not needed. This picture truly reflect the lives In the picture The Slave Auction [2], slaves are sent to the supermarket. They are treated as distress merchandise. In the eye of the buyer, they are the same as goods, maybe treat them equal as animals. Their eyes were in eclipse and despair. The buyers could deal with them arbitrarily. No one care about whether they are happy. Even, no one care about whether they are sick. The above are the lives of slaves in the south.

Resistance is always combined with compression. In the slavery history, there are too many revolt incidents. As we can see from the picture Nat Turner's slave rebellion [3], it signed an event that slaves fighting against the colonists. It is the highest number of fatalities caused by any slave uprising in the Southern United States. Though it is failed and controlled by the European-American in the end, it reflect that slaves are intolerable the current state. It encourage people after them fighting for freedom. It inspires more people to stand up fighting for the slavery [4]. This is also indicate that slavery would be overthrow for one day.

In the slavery society, women, especially African-American women, have suffered a lot of unfair treatment. They had to work all day long even when they are pregnant. Besides, they may considered as a sexy tool. Their personality are trampled by the planter but they have no right to resist [6]. This is a extremely society where there is on human nature. They had done a lot of work to defend slavery and fight for woman’s right. In the picture Am I Not a Woman and a Sister [1], it depicts a woman who is begging for freedom and fairness. It reflect the bad living condition of woman. But it also reflect that she also has hope in mind. In order to safeguard their rights, Many excellent women abolitionists appear, such as Sarah and Angelina Grimke. They make lectures to aware more slavery woman and acting as a header to defend the unfair principle made by the planter.

Conclusion

In this paper, we have presented the existence of slavery, the living condition of slaves and resistance of slaves. Slavery is an important part of US history. It is closely related to the road that American developed. In other words, it lays the foundation that forcing American to transform into capitalist path. The mutual part of these two paths is exploit. The planters transform into capitalists. There is no doubt that slaves bring considerable benefit and they also created considerable wealth for the society. From the references we have mapped, we can feel and understand the boiling life they have suffered Pictures intuitively reflect the inner activities of the person. It also labeled some important event that were happen. These materials can vividly reflect the truth at that time, which gives me a deep impression.
