I have chosen an article which has talked about whether it is correct to perform capital punishment. It is mentioned that even two centuries ago, the King in England sometimes even killed a person who had only committed petty thefts. This is not something strange or abnormal in fact because during the time when the majority of people were crazy about the flat earth and the almighty god, if a person dared to accuse god of bad actions or dared to deny their god,, they would have been killed on the gallows too. It is mentioned that capital punishment seemed to be normal and correct in the past. However, later in the 19th century, when the judge in the court were dealing with a case, the jury and the judge had reached the conclusion that punishing a person by killing him is too cruel and it might have violate that person’s right to live since all human beings are equal and committing crimes does not mean that person do not  have the right to enjoy the their lives. After that, some people have been trying to find others so called more human ways of killing those who have committed crimes. For example, in the past, the only way of capital punishment is to send a person to the gallows but later they have decided that other ways of death penalty can be lethal injection or killing with electric chair.

In fact, the main idea of the article is that the death penalty has been very controversial in many countries because death penalty is murder itself and only very few countries have ruled out capital punishment. Therefore, in the article, opinions on both sides have been presented. It is stated for those who do not support capital punishment, they do not believe that capital punishment has the effect of discouraging crimes. But for those who are against this idea, they think that all nations should legalize this way of punishment because it can act as a deterrent and people are more scared of committing crimes.

But then this same question or the same statement can be argued back by laying out that idea that capital punishment itself is very primitive and barbariaertic and whoever wants to murder will still murder others so it cannot act as a deterrent.

To sum up, this topic has been arguing back and forth in the article in many ways. For example, it is stated by those who do not agree with capital punishment that this punishment has been against the basic human right and it is ridiculous to kill another person because he or she has killed others since this behavior is more like a revenge. However, although this article has presented arguments from both sides and the main argument and the main idea is that it is not human to perform capital punishment since the death penalty first can hardly stop people from committing crimes and also it is not wise to assume that killing a person can stop him or her from killing others because nowadays, most criminals even want to commit suicide and they do not care dying at all. So the author of this article mainly supports that it is not correct to kill another person just because he or she has committed crime and more human ways of punishment should be created.

In fact, I have found two other articles that have discussed the same problem. In fact, in a chapter written by Luis Arroyo Zapateo in her book Death Penalty: a cruel and inhuman Punishment, it is mentioned in a case quoted in the book. In this case, the supporters of performing death penalty on the criminals have stated that if we decide to kill one person, it is possible that we can save more than seventy lives. Especially for serial murderers, if we do not end their lives, they could escape from the prison and kill more people. (Luis Arroyo Zapateo, 2015)

However, in many cities, after they have stopped implementing death penalty, there is no decreasing or increasing of crimes, stated in a chapter in the  book Death Penalty: a cruel and inhuman Punishment , death penalty cannot be the effective way of decreasing crime and no matter whether the criminals should be killed, it does not affect their motivation to commit crimes since when they have decided to commit crimes, they have already prepared to be sent in prison or to be punished. Therefore, why is it necessary to kill another person solely for revenge? (Luis Arroyo Zapateo, 2015) Also, through all these years, even in developed countries, there are a lot of criminals who were falsely accused of murdering because others have planted their fingerprints in the crime scenes or others have been paid to accuse that person. As a result, if the jury had performed capital punishment on these people, their lives will be wrongly taken. For example, in China, recently, it has been discovered that years ago, an eighteen year old boy was wrongly sent to the gallows because he was accused of killing others. However, now, the truth has been revealed and it turned out he was innocent. Their parents have lost a son who have been educating and taking care of for man
