Project Report

2015-07-12 来源: 51due教员组 类别: Report范文

In order to perfectly accomplish the project and experience the life of service, our team chose West Valley Animal Shelter to launch our plan. I learnt a lot from the meaningful days we spent there and I’d like to share with you.

Group Section:

The mission of West Valley Animal Shelter is to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of animals and people. As we all know that animals are the most faithful friends to human beings and treating animals like our family members is helpful to promote our sense of responsibility. After all, to protect animals is to survive mankind itself.

Generally speaking, the function of West Valley Animal Shelter is more like a bridge, not only smoothly connecting people and animals, but also keeping close touch with peoples. After several days’ work here, our group has got some valuable opportunities to get touch with a variety of kinds of animals in a short distance. Hence, we learnt some knowledge about feeding animals. Whereas, compared with the knowledge I learnt, it was more cardinal that I felt a kind of attitude, which taught us to show your responsibility to your animal brothers and sisters. When people came for a dog or a cat and finally they took one away, you could see the sincere smiles hanging on the faces of both people and animals adopted.

In the Declaration of Independence, there is a common sense that people are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that they are among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Happiness is issued to our creeds of life but no one is quite sure the specific definition of that. However, we found answers here and our comprehension of happiness is devoting. Before I took part in the project, I was always wondering why people pursue vocations of service with non-profit. But now I realize doing non-profit program is actually pursuing their happiness for works and vets in West Valley Animal Shelter. Our team member Bob once said people here, through treating animals well, were chasing after their own happiness as well. It was more beneficial compared to someone only wanting physical things to fulfill so-called happiness.

As for the virtues we observe being practiced, we’d like to conclude them into three words: carefulness, patience, love. Why are these three words? I’d like to support our point of view with a real example. On the third day we worked in WVAS, it occurred an unforeseeable situation that a maroon horse in the stable was suddenly fell down to the ground with heavy exhaled breath. Our group witnessed all process how vets rescued the poor boy. The vet first came kneeling onto his knees and carefully injecting medicine into the horse’s body. We were deeply touched because we found though sweats were dropping down along with the vet’s cheek, he even never moved his eyes for a while. During the cure, the horse was painful and his eyes were full of scare, so he unintentionally resisted the cure and help. However, the vets and nurses were so patient that they should make the boy calm down and feed him water. One nurse used her palm gently stroking the horsehair and I ensured what glittered in her eyes was LOVE. Only love can be regarded as the tool for communication across human beings and animals. We saw the priceless virtues, at the same time we practiced as well. We helped care for the animals, we fed them, showered them and played with them. Every time some people came with the tendency to adopt an animal as pet, we did register work for them and waved goodbye to those friends picked out. During this process we inherited those beautiful virtues too.

Individual Section:

To myself, I also learnt lots of useful abilities. The most important ability I learnt from my vocation is team cooperation. During the “Horse Crisis”, at first we were so panic that we didn’t know what to do. Later on, according to the vet’s instruction, we were separated into small teams to do relative work. Mason and I, as heavyset boys, were issued in one team and our job was to take medicine from pharmacy. Meanwhile Bob and Amy were asked to assist the vet and Vivian was asked to stay at reception. Being simply organized was greatly helpful to increase work efficiency. When there is an emergency situation, organized and scientific team work is really necessary. After entering the society, no matter what kind of job you purse, no matter in business enterprise or in government department, team is always a core word you need to recognize the importance of it. That is what I learnt most during my non-profit vocation.

The manager of WVAS is Mrs. Brenda B, who has earned a reputation as a positive change manager. She once said we envision the day when every pet born has a good home and is cared for all its life, and no person is ever endangered by an animal. It was very impressive because it clearly revealed the interdependent relationship between animals and mankind.

Actually, devotion and service are of great importance for our current life. With the developing of commercialism, people are getting more and more passionate with issues related to profits. But we should know that money can’t be the only reason to urge us to do something or not. Different from animals’ world, we people have ability to show our care, our sympathy and love. Service work can help the poor out of traps, improve our kind humility. That is what we couldn’t measure by money. From my perspective, non-profit service is necessary and we can’t live a life without it.
