After participating in the lecture related to professionalism of ICT, in my opinion, ICT profession was possessed high-level technological elements which should be considered at the level of the entire community. Whitney et al (2011) stated that practitioners within the ICT industry should recognize that advanced technologies should be utilized on behalf of the public interests rather than individual benefits. Herein, professionalism was not just professional skills, but it represented the comprehensive qualification including professionals, ethical conducts to always input the public interest in the top position, if so, the quality of life might be effectively improved to display advantages of ICT in the current digital age and adverse effects would be minimized definitely.

As individual ICT professionals, people should be ethical and professional to engage in ICT related issues in the workplace to meet standards such as the Australian Computer Society (ACS) or Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA). Through improving personal competencies, it might believe that individuals could be capable of offering skillful and honest ICT solutions in addressing daily uncertainties to satisfy relevant stakeholders; since the ICT industry developed rapidly, so ICT professionals should also pay attention to professional development related to new technologies, knowledges, practices so as to avoid unprofessional behaviors (Clayton et al, 2012). To sum up, individuals were parts of the society and it would be expected to make efforts in order to contribute productively to meet the public benefits.

In the perspective of the community, ICT profession played the critical role in designing new technological frameworks so that people’s lives could be improved. In such scenario, I thought that the relationship between the society and the ICT industry was interdependent. For example, SFIA should help ICT practitioners to improve qualities to meet the needs of businesses in the workplace; while personnels should make sure that their behaviors should constantly comply with principles of either ACS or SFIA to be moral and non-discriminative to maintain the dignity in order to do good to the whole society (Whitney et al, 2011).

But I felt many new techniques were generated when old techniques were not possessed skillfully. In other words, it might be an issue to ensure human being even if ICT professionals could constantly meet the fast-moving industry. Therefore, when ICT helped to reach achievements, such kind of professionalism should be able to foresee the future to pursue the common interests of the public value.
