The study of organisational behaviour identifies four characteristics of behaviour in organisation. Firstly, the behaviour in organisation is on the basis of scientific method. Secondly, the focuses of organisational behaviour are individuals, groups and organisations (Gnyawali & Madhavan, 2001). Thirdly, organisational behaviour is based on scientific nature and aims to promote organisational effectiveness and human well-being (Bailey, 2007).

For the business managers, it is crucial to study organisational behaviour. Initially, organisational behaviour aims to apply scientific management methods to practice, which is avail for the managers to solve management problems (Robbins & Judge, 2012). The knowledge of organisational behaviour is rooted in behaviour science and considers multiple fields such as psychology and sociology via scientific method (Wood et al., 2010). In order to improve organisational functions and individual life quality, the managers can understand contemporary management issues such as globalisation, human trafficking and modern-day slavery, growth of enterprise economy and trends in working population. Besides, organisational behaviour focuses on analysis of three levels, which includes individuals, groups and organisations (Greenberg, 2008). Organisational behaviour elaborates the comprehensiveness of the dynamics of behaviours in organisations (Aswathappa, 2010) and the managers can conduct better interpersonal communication thereby building better human relationship network.  In addition, organisational behaviour is multidisciplinary in nature (Griffin & Moorhead, 2011) so that the managers can investigate a management issue from different perspectives and conduct different approaches to solve the issue by learning organisational behaviour. What is more, based on the knowledge of organisational behaviour, the managers can appraise the work of employees accurately, therefore increase productivity and meantime reduce costs (Clegg et al., 2011).

Not only for business managers, but learning organisational behaviour is beneficial for each individual. First of all, learning organisational behaviour contributes to catch the anxiety-provoking organisational changes such as redeployments or layoffs (Griffin & Moorhead, 2001). Those who know what is required and have some ideas to cope with these uncertainties can be career advancing. Second, individuals in organisation can understand and predict organisational life based on the organisational knowledge (Wilson, 2013). By understanding and analysing the determination factors, each one in the organisation can make appropriate decisions. Thirdly, by understanding the predicting the events, everyone in the organisation can influence the environment of an organisation. By studying organisational behaviour, each member in organisation can better communicate with others, make better decisions and contribute to the efficiency of team work. Fourthly, studying organisational behaviour is especially worthwhile for people who peruse a career in management because for them learn how to measure and predict behaviour is of vital importance.
