The hunger games is an adventure novel written by the American author Suzanne Collins. Julie Myerson once said,“There are always novels that you envy people for not yet having read, for the pleasure they still have to come.” Actually, The hunger games is definitely that kinds of novel.

Throughout history, practically nobody had any choice. Human has been afflicted by political corruption and endless war for several thousand years. As a result, individuals became more materialistic and increasingly alienated from one another. In order to survival, people have to give up dignity and kind nature. However, in literature, love and beauty is an eternal topic. In the hunger game. The author gives a depressing picture of twenty four young people mutual fight closely. This was the author’s most biting criticism made against war and violence, meanwhile, point to the adult world, because we have lost the kindness and innocence in the adult world. Nevertheless, we can see the light of humidity from teenagers. For example, nearly all of us are moved by the friendship between Katniss and sina, and the love story about katniss and peter. The novels more and more concern on the survival and the sympathy of suffering. Prove that Kind-hearted men still exist. Over all, the disaster is fictional, but the emotion is real.
In the traditional romance novels, the social situation that men are in a dominant and women in a subordinated condition and men in a dominating and women in a dominated respectively. However, female characters never complain about life but endure it. Those small women, or good wife and mother are more acceptable by readers. However, the female characters in modern fictions are more independent and mature. In this novel, katniss was not portrayed as people who simply wear make-up but a legendary girl. She’s strong and she has convictions, readers are impressed by her forceful character. According to Susanne Smith, a feminist, the change was due mainly to the improvement of female status. In modern society, women have gained more freedom, more education and more economic power, and both East and West are seeing big changes in the role of women and traditional family life.
Katiness is a strong woman in this novel. She is an excellent huntress, debilitating her prey with her arrows. However, in traditional novels, hunters were mainly men. Women usually stay at home and busied themselves with sewing. Since katiness’s father died when she was still very young, the girl had to spend much of her time helping his mother to taking care of her little sister and hunting for food, she had to bear the heavy burdens from family life. These can be seen in modern society as more and more women realized themselves taking on even greater responsibilities at home.
We can also see feminist ideas from Katiness and peter’s romance, in the love world, Women are seek to be equal with men and no longer are slaves to men. being matched for marriage is an old feudal conception but no longer fit for modern society. Katiness is a girl from poor family who fall in love with a rich man, Peter. The author just wants to tell us that love is not based on material things. What we want most is the emotion from the deeper heart.
