Personal Statement（5）

这是一篇个人陈述。作者讲述自己在美国的生活，他希望能成为一名优秀的工程师，并用自己足够的理论知识，在这领域做出惊人的贡献。

  It is my strong faith that the true meaning of life does not reside in the length of time that we live or the profuse materials that we are able to obtain, but in the richness and the admirableness of life itself. As time lapses, tremendous affairs in my life have opted, however, there is still one thing that stays unchanged, namely, being a great engineer. I am always regarding this as the only way whereby I can truly fulfill the value of my precious life. The systematic, numerical as well as the team-working gauntlets that the contemporary engineering world posts really captivated me deeply making me indulge into this field. 

  Engineering which can be considered as the combination of the scientific knowledge and maths explains the aims of innovating processes from which every invention in this world forms. My intended major certainly is engineering. As far as I am concerned, all the territories of engineering are crucial on account of the fact that they will give you an opportunity to shape the world where we live, to help the dwellers that we love and the environment which we have. With the firm determination to do so, I have regarded this as my destiny.

  I was studying engineering in Green River Community College getting the GPA of 3.17, this has given me a chance to know something about this field, however, it is still a tip of the iceberg. What I am eager to do is to get to know more in regards to this field. University of Washington, one of the first-rate universities specializing in a variety of majors like science and engineering , has more than 150-year history and enjoyed the great reputation all over the world. One of my best friend who was a student majoring in engineering once upon a time told me that this school provide every student with first-rate professors as well as best facilities. After graduating in University of Washington, he got a very decent job with a good salary. More importantly, he is able to plumb the world of engineering in a better way and enjoy this to his heart’s content. Being encouraged by him, I do believe that this university will be my wisest choice. 

  I am a Chinese student who is studying in the United States of America, meaning to say, in spite of staying in America for a couple of years, the Chinese culture has still had a large impact on me, one of which is the frugalness that almost every Chinese people is taught in their childhood. Economy is the one of the China's tradition, coming to America does not change this tradition as all. I have never spent my money on something useless. On the contrary, I am more than willing to spend my money on book that can enrich my knowledge. 

  As far as my memory can take me back, I had a big fever right before the final exam that I had been preparing for a long time. I was highly suggested to go back to China to be taken thorough care of by my parents, because my roommates had to prepare for their exams as well, therefore, they did not have a plenty of time to look after me. I did not want to go back to China, because doing so would lose the chance of taking the finals. Hence, I decided to take it no matter how sick I was. Fortunately, I passed all of those exams. 

  While studying hard at school, I was bent on being a volunteer in a nursing home chatting with them. Old people are not prone to talk with, because the topics that they are fond of may not interest the young like me. In the very beginning, I could not focus on talking to them, sometimes I fell asleep out of a sudden, but as time went by, I accumulated some experience and was able to make them happy. They are particularly keen on listening to stories, thus, every time when I went to see them, I would always find some nice stories. Being a volunteer to take care of the aged helped me know what patient truly means. I should be patient when it comes to talking with the old, excitingly, this volunteering experience made me get down to study and concentrate on studying much more easily. 

  My individual goal is to be an excellent engineer in the coming future. After earning the bachelor’s degree , I think that I will definitely begin work on my master’s degree in engineering. I believe that I will be able to make fabulous contribution to this filed via utilizing my theoretical background. I hope your school will take me into consideration and I promise that I will try my best to pursue my goal.
