The development of Canada

When Canada participated in the First World War, women paid enormous efforts and costs. This painting describes how women devoted themselves into the rear support during the World War I. They knitted socks for soldiers, sold baking products and handicraft works and even exchanged money they earned with cigarettes for soldiers. Women did everything they could in order to ensure the soldiers could fight against the enemies to protect the homeland in the best possible condition. Exaggeratedly, it is indispensable to win the war without the contribution of women. Therefore, the support from women plays an essential role in the victory of the First World War.

  This is a newspaper in 1920s, where we can read the news about the immigration upsurge in the first message. In 1920s, Canada went on an immigration binge that a lot of people from all over the world immigrated into Canada. In my point of view, this immigration wave compensated for the depopulation after the First World War, balancing the manual power, promoting economic growth and diversifying the culture.

  The newspaper of October 29th, 1929, recorded the darkest day in the history of stock exchange which all the people scrambled to offload shares. It is the most devastated and influencing economic event in the history that its effects cascaded across the western countries and even the whole world. Afterwards, the world economy plunged into a deep and prolonged recession for a decade, which was called the Great Depression. This event affected the economic growth for Canada and even the entire world, hindered the economic development for world’s prosperity and stability, and brought a massive disaster for Canadians.

  During the Second World War, the entire people were mobilized for rear support. People abominated wars and petitioned for an early end to the war. This painting depicts that children made new weapons by collecting metal materials and people cultivated in the public garden while elders packaged the vegetables for the battlefield. This movement demonstrated the national solidarity and contributed indelible power to end the fighting, exerting a far-reaching influence on Canada ethnic unity. Their achievements strengthened the power of world anti-fascist alliance and the unity of Canadians was internationally recognized.

  After the war, all industries in Canada were developed rapidly. As it is described in the picture, Canadian army is more powerful and its navy has become the world’s third largest navy and its air force ranks the forth in the world. It enhances the international prestige and status for Canada, which attracts more and more talents and entrepreneurs to immigrate, improving the economic growth. Canada has formed a strong and stable social system as well as the national management policies, laying a foundation for peaceful development in future.
