My name is xxx, a student of xxx department, xxx college. I am sorry for my not being able to come back for the rest of the fall semester, because my grandfather, a very dear family member to me, passed away on December 16th, 2014. I am now applying for transferring my schedule to the following spring semester and re-register by then, and I also hope that I am qualified to apply for a cancellation fee and a tuition transfer, which enables me to transfer my tuition of the winter semester to the spring semester.

  According to Chinese traditions, as the youngest generation of the family, I have the duty to go home and stay with my grandfather and the rest of the family for a while. Therefore, I came back on 8th January and thus unfortunately missed the registration day and was not allowed to have the winter semester. I am really sorry that I cannot came back to school on time and proceeded with my schedule. My grandfather was a loving man and I spent almost my whole childhood with him. We were very close to each other, and I can still recall the time we were together when I was a kid. His passing away is a great shock to me and the whole family, and I have the duty to stay with him for one last month, out of my own feelings and in accordance with our traditions. I am in deep sorrow and really sorry for my absence in the following days, but this is something I must do for my family.

  I understand that it will be hard for the department to make such a decision and permit my leaving in advance, but I hope that you will consider it carefully as a sincere ask from a man of sorrow in these days. I have come back and I will finish all the courses, assignments and tests left in the fall semester, and try my best to compensate for other necessary activities that I was not able to participate in this year. Since my family is not a well-off one, and my parents have really spent much to provide fund for my studies abroad and due to the fact that I was not allowed to have the winter semester of which the tuition I have paid, I hereby apply for a tuition transfer to next semester. I hope that by this application I will be able to start a new semester more properly, and my family burdens can be greatly eased.

  I sincerely hope that my applications will be granted for that the event was so urgent and out of my control, and it concerned very much the people I love. I believe that the applications will enable me to become a more promising student in the school, and that my family will be less stressful.
