The Stranger(review) The Stranger After I read The Stranger, I found more than one theme in the book. My first theme was the meaninglessness of human life and another one is the importance of the physical world. These themes are very apparent because you really didn’t have to read deep into the book to see these themes. I think the theme was effectively developed because it was straight out there in the open and I think that the author wanted us to see the theme as soon as you begin reading the story. The primary purpose in this book was to generate some strong emotion because Meursault has just killed an Arab man, and there is going to be some very controversial decisions that will happen in the story after he does this. The situation in this story is that Meursault is friends with a man that beats his girlfriends and is somewhat of a type of pimp. Meursault and his friends decide to go up to a beach and get away from all that is happening around them. They encounter some Arab men and have a confrontation with them on the beach.
