The firm he had been invited to work for was purchased by a much larger firm. In the process of being bought, he was left out of the deal and under the new ownership Rudy was no longer guaranteed his job. There were no more job openings for lawyers in Memphis and many of his fellow students decided to start their own firms. Throughout college Rudy had worked at a bar on campus called Yogi’s owned by Prince. Rudy was taking a class geared toward getting experience and they had to help give free legal advice to seniors. He met the Black family and Mrs. Birdie. The black family consisted of Dot, Donny Ray and Buddy. Dot consulted Rudy about Donny Ray chemotherapy that they couldn’t afford and their insurance wouldn’t pay for.
