Environmental ethics or values stretch classical ethics to a breaking point. All ethics seeks an appropriate or sustainable respect of life. This demands an ethic concern about human welfare and the concerns of the environment. Whether practice or theory, these values are much needed. Environmentally, I see it as non anthropocentric. The separation between ethics and science has its challenges, ethically it assumes to count humans morally, and scientifically trying to change science that finds nature value free. Environmental ethics seems to look for ways to escape relativism. However, much of how an individual see issues in the global perspectives, with ethics included, it is embedded within our cultural well-being, although theory and value oriented, we all know that the natural world exists apart from human cultures. Nature and humans interact with one another somehow in some way. Environmental ethics has its risks. Some ethicists deal with serious concerns such as, business and medical ethics, life and death questions, justice in public affairs, and peace and war. With that being said, I personally do not feel that these issues are not as problematic as it would be as oppose to the degradation of our environment which sets forth a huge threat to life and be more of a probable tragedy. An example would be; when it comes to other living organisms, like the animals, does the human mindset think of what the animals have to live through to meet our satisfaction or needs. I think animals need ethics also, but that is only a one level concern in a comprehensive environmental ethics. Concerns from the past and present for animal life has science protesting a little of the values of these creatures. The progress of science and/or ethical progress have since then smeared the boundaries, so then there has been reassessment of human duties on how to deal with the wildlife issues. Some humans respect life in a non human, but a near human animal relative, which is semi anthropocentric and a subjective ethic. Justice remains a concern for just-us subjects. With the lack of conceptual strain, when trying to use cultural extended rights to protect our endangered species, we can only stammer. It is sad to say, that there may be no rights in the wild in itself, but nature is what it is, indifferent to the welfare of particular animals. It is challenging to separate the wildlife and human ethics; which is also called ethical extensionism. Animals in general cannot enter culture, but by humans adopting and domesticating certain animals, these animals receive some of the protections of the cultures, but neither food animals nor pets enter the culture that shelters them. Such cultural protection can work to their detriment. Culture is often bad for animals, but for humans it is a good thing. Environmental ethics has different criteria from human ethics and culture makes an ethical difference. All living organisms live in the world of survival; we live in the circle of life. So whether we like it or not, what else is there to do. We can only be educated and do so much. A total shutdown of life streams will be an event of destruction and famine. Life on Earth cannot exist without its humankind and wildlife, but humans are somewhat easier to reproduce than would specie reproducing. Species is what it is, where they are. As stated, by a philosopher Aldo Leopold, “A thing is right, when it tends to preserve the stability, integrity, and biotic community; it is wrong when it tends otherwise.” Here we have the ecosystems that exist both in the wildlife and in the support in culture and that it ought to exist, by what they are and modified by culture. One’s belief about nature has everything to do with duty. The way how the world informs humankind the “ought” to be, seems to shape our values in accordance to the world we live in. How we value nature and the environment determines on our personal environmental ethics as well as our human being development. I feel that when humankind is more educated in all aspects; religiously, culturally, just to name a few and has an open mind on how life is, then it should not be hard to understand and take in what you have learned from it and make use of it. I am not saying stop believing in what you want to believe in, but to just expand the knowledge and be wise about it. It would not hurt. Unless you are an individual who is one tracked mind, then I do not know what to tell you; although you are entitled to your opinions and that should be respected anyways. There will always be pros and cons to any issues that are brought up in science and other subjects, but having the knowledge of various perspectives would also be a learning experience; whether good, bad, or challenging, that is just my personal opinion. As much as I have personally experienced and have learned from being educated with going to school, I do appreciate a lot of what has manifested internally and externally. With so much that has happened in the world throughout the years and so forth, now sets the ultimate challenge; which is the conservation of life on Earth. This is nature’s feature that has to be valued. The world and/or mother nature will continue to do what she has to do, so for humankind, one can always hang on to a claim and use it to an extent that hopefully works out for the better and not for the worse. This type of worldwide awareness is a way of knowing and learning a way of behaving in our environment. Being that we are the witnesses of the Earth’s evolution, the knowledge and thoughts about the environment, hopefully takes on a different meaning in our lives. The future is dependent on our behavior and actions, if we use the fundamentals of life and be practical, like recycling resources and utilizing renewable resources then this vision will promote an entire new life. This can only come through if we use our duty of consciousness. -Y
