Same Performance, Better Grades

In the article titled with “Same Performance, Better Grades”, the author Aina Katsikas has shared personal opinions and skepticisms about the popular grade inflation in American higher educational system, in terms of performances, underlying causes and possible consequences.

Currently, it is common that students just have similarly satisfying academic performances with basically good grades in many colleges and universities. However, the fact is that the graduates are less literate, indicating the nonequivalence between their qualities with the grades. Katsikas (2015) indicates students will be less motivated by good grades following this tendency. According to Katsikas (2015), “Leaders are obsessed with national reputation” and the endowment, with less concerns about education quality. Moreover, potential employers are less acknowledged with the meaningless grade points. Personally, I am inspired by Katsika’s arguments, making me aware of education status in America. I have similar experience. I turned to be a little disappointed after knowing many A results even when I got an A.

In face of wide grade inflation, all educators and students are supposed to have a further reflection about educational significance. The thing is to value the educational quality rather than merely the grade points.
