Zhang (1999) did the research about the sea-level rise on Shanghai municipal building and corresponding countermeasures. According the Shanghai relative sea-level health research he collected, he found the sea level rise increased with the global climate change. In his paper, he concluded that sea-level change would rise in a fast speed in the future due to serious global warming. At the same time, he listed the bad influence of the rising sea level on Shanghai and some valuable suggestions were given to cope with the change.
Core (2006) revealed the relationship between the climate change and human activities in his book. Whilst, Core listed many scientific evidences in the form of charts, tables and so on to prove his findings. He also called on the public to pay more attention to reduce the discharge of man-made greenhouse gases in the daily life. The relevant governments and global or regional organizations should shoulder the responsibility to make a feasible plan to prevent the deterioration of the global climate. Based on Core’s discussions in his book, Shanghai as a typical example in the situation of the rising sea level can obtain some valuable advice.
Xu (2012) compared the changes of the sea levels from 2001 to 2010 in the surroundings of Shanghai including Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province in his study. In his article, he analyzed the negative effects of the rising sea levels on Shanghai in detail including the beach erosion, storm surge and flood disaster, salt water erosion and so on. Faced with these negative impacts, Xu proposed five feasible ways to weaken them such as improving the relevant water conservancy facilities, environmentally friendly activities and so on.
Liu (2014) did the analysis about the global climate change on the Yangtze River estuary socio-economic impact studies. In his study, the author took use of variable fuzzy recognition model, PSR various studies (Pressure - Response Force - State) model, GIS Platform methods and analytical tools to carry out a deep analysis about the coupled interaction between global climate change and human-socio-economic development. The situation of the global climate change and impact on the Yangtze River estuary socio-economic development were discussed as well. Similarly, the author proposed many feasible methods according to his study for this region including Shanghai.
Cheng, Wang and Chen (2015) used grey linear regression model and least square method to estimate the number of sea level rise. Besides, in this article they explained all process of how to get the number. On top of that, the authors also proposed some methods to weaken the negative effects of the rising sea levels on Shanghai. They called on the all the world especially those developed countries to shoulder the responsibility to slow down the step of global warming. Meanwhile, more shared climate database sources should be provided for those developing countries in order to reduce the bad influence on people’s life.
Wang et al. (2015) did some researches on the sea-level change in the East China sea. In their study, they found the critical spatial differences existed in the East China sea-level change. Based on the date they collected, they found the annual 9-10 month in Shanghai region was the month where areas prone marine disasters occurred. Meanwhile, they predicted that the next sea level peak period would occur around 2025 in the following decade.
Wang and Jiao (2015) took Shanghai region as the example to analyze the sea-level change in recent years and predict the future situation. In their study, they adopted the average value calculated with the grey linear regression model method and least square method, respectively to predict the change of the rising sea level in Shanghai. Besides, they analyzed the effects of the rising sea level on the urban moistureproof property and municipal water. And some control strategies were provided in the final of the paper.
To sum up, based on the aforementioned review of the present literature, we can find the situation of the sea-level change in Shanghai is serious. And the future sea-level change will rise in a fast speed with the degradation of the global climate. In that case, there will more harms brought by the sea-level change on Shanghai region. Therefore, some urgent actions should be implemented to weaken the negative impacts brought by the rising sea levels.
