Racial discrimination is a phenomenon that has actually lasted for rather a long period of time because of the existence of different skin colors among the great majority of human beings and the division of different social status of those people. Blankly speaking, racial discrimination is about the superior white people’s looking down upon those inferior black people and white people and the black people will be given different treatment by human beings just because of the skin color differences. This is the perception toward the racial discrimination of most people, which is really basic and asks for further elaborate exploration about it on my own. Therefore in the following will be my narrative reflection and analysis on racial discrimination, during which my own experiences will be shared in order for better explanation.

When I was in China, I had to admit that my understanding toward the racial discrimination was kind of superficial and it seemed that I really knew too little about it. The rationale why I was unable to know clearly about the truth of the racial discrimination lies in that I could not get access to the real scenes where the racial discrimination have actually occurred. At that time, I could only get somewhat familiar with the racial discrimination from the textbook knowledge as well as some social media means, such as movies, TV series, some international news and so on. But what is a pity to say is that those resources have actually been modified by relevant people before their publication in order that they won’t offend some group of people. So you can have a fair knowledge that what I got about the racial discrimination may be not down-to-earth as has been endowed with a kind of hinderation.

Luckily, when I come to study abroad, I can personally feel the racial discrimination in flesh so that I am able to from time to time get the first hand information about it, leading to my gradual correction of my past misunderstanding toward the racial discrimination. To put it into more specifically, when I was here, I was given the opportunity to make friends with both black people and white people so that I can directly ask them about my puzzlements and they will always give me the answers if such behaviors may not affect others. The most impressive is that my black friends have ever told me that they have really been maltreated in the past and the last long history of the racial discrimination is really one of their nightmares as may never be forgotten by them in their whole lifetime. They even added that though with the passage of time, the racial discrimination may have eliminated more or less, the fact is that they would choose to stay with the black people either for class or for entertainment when compared with those white people. They said that when they are with other black people, they can feel more at ease and they can have more freedom to do whatever they like.

According to my experiences abroad, I am aware of the fact that the black people have actually ingrained in their mind that they are born to be somewhat inferior to those white people and they cannot get the supposed care, respect and equality. Under the influence of such mind, they dare not fight for their freedom and rights when something happens and they would rather choose to accept the fate and surrender to the unequal conditions they are treated with. But some of my white friends told me that they are willing to make friends with those black people and they do not have the sense of the absolute superiority as in the past. But what is a pity to say is that they also held that blackness is actually somewhat disgusting. They even gave an example to me that if it is in the nights, when you encounter a black person, you can only see his/her teeth moving but cannot see any other part. Just guess how horrible it will be when you are confronted with such condition. This is not discrimination toward the black people of the white people but just one kind of unconsciousness as cannot be controlled by themselves.

Maybe from the above analysis, it can be indicative that the racial discrimination can be partially avoided through the joint efforts of both the black people and the white people. Detailed speaking, the black people should get themselves out of their own inferiority and they should instead regard themselves as people that can get equal treatment like all others. And on the other hand, the white people should encourage those black people and they should pay attention to their daily behaviors in order not to offend those black people. Through this, black people can have the courage to communicate with them and they dare strive for their absolute freedom in the daily life. I bet that if the fact can really turn out that way, the whole world can become a more harmonious one and all the human beings can live peacefully with others.
