Ethical Dilemma

以下是对上海浦东国际机场集团的五个伦理困境,可以概括为以下因素:人力资源问题,公司员工的忠诚度,偏袒或歧视顾客的消费信心理问题的范畴,在企业资源的使用范畴,利用个人的影响实施盗窃,以及在企业责任问题的范畴的可持续发展。上述五个问题,我想集中可持续发展的建议的问题来开展我的研究。

Following are the elaboration on the five ethical dilemmas of Shanghai Pudong International Airport Group as can be summarized as the below ones: company’s loyalty to employees in human resources issues, favoritism toward/ discrimination against customers in the category of consumer confidence issues, employee theft of ideas within the category of the use of corporate resource issues, use of personal influence to benefit family and friends in the category of conflict of interest issues as well as sustainability within the category of corporate responsibility issues. Among those aforementioned five, I would like to focus my research and proposal on sustainability. 

Company’s Loyalt to Employees – On the one hand, the company’s loyalty to employees’ dilemma is a problem for the organization as employees in the company will always be put into a situation that is to worry about when they will be dismissed so that they can not work wholeheartedly in the daily life. And on the other hand, the employees will look for another company as seems to be loyal to its employees so that they can work for a long time there. The reason why such situation will raise concern is that in the long run, the company will be lack of talents to contribute to the development of the company so that it will not be good for the long-term development of it. Company’s being disloyal to employees violates the protection of employees’ rights as well as justice. When I witness it happening, I will try my best to avoid the incidence of it. 

Favoritism toward/ Discrimination against Customers – This phenomenon is increasingly obvious recently as can be seen in almost all the companies within Shanghai Pudong International Airport Group. Favoritism toward/ discrimination against customers will be a dilemma in that this will at first cause the imbalanced mind of the great majority of customers so that it may lead to the loss of some customers that have ever been discriminated against. And other companies that will later treat them with favoritism will attract them to patronize instead, leading to loss of customers and decrease of profits to a certain degree. As for this ethical dilemma, my idealized ethical stance is that all the ones in the company should treat all the customers equally but not regard them differently due to their economic situation. But what is a pity to say is that human beings have ingrained in their mind of the differences of wealthy ones and poor ones. 

Employee Theft of Ideas – It is a common sense that employee theft will happen from time to time due to the greed of them so that they will steal the ideas, supplies, time, expense account padding and other things like that. While the employee theft of ideas tend to be the most dangerous as it may influence the whole company’s profits so as to exert impacts to each and every one concerned. What is worse, sometimes the employee theft of ideas may sometimes even cause break-up of the confidential information of this company to that company as are both under the management of Shanghai Pudong International Airport Group. The severity of the employee theft of ideas will undoubtedly determine that this dilemma will be a great concern for the organization. Suppose that I am the manager for this organization, I will definitely advocate for the serious management of all the employees with strict laws and regulations designed to monitor the employees’ behaviors. 

Use of Personal Influence to Benefit Family and Friends – As long as you look around the Shanghai Pudong International Airport, it is easy to find the use of personal influence to benefit family and friends. For example, the acquaintances of the ones that are working for this group will receive greater convenience and they can easily deal with that they desire to do more smoothly. Why this situation will bring trouble to the organization is that human beings will notice of such inequality and then choose to other organizations as can provide with the same services as it. In a certain sense, the use of personal influence to benefit family and friends has broken the consumers’ rights law as they do not share the rights they are ought to enjoy. 

Sustainability – The sustainability for this organization is quite hard to realize in that several behaviors of this organization have to a certain extent caused damage to customers’ health and safety. There is no doubt that it will be accused with low ethical standards for aggressively promoting its dangerous performances, which is also the reason why there will be a barrage of negative press together with mounting pressure from various related groups. The security threat toward the great majority of customers caused by the organization has directly made it become a matter that really concerns a lot. If I just personally witness it happening, I will prevent the incidence of it by stopping it from the scratch. That is to say, I will directly stop the production of the unhealthy products in the first beginning so as to save the customers. The organization should make profits on the ethical basis and keep well control of the degree of being too utilitarian. But as a matter of a fact, I can not act according to my idealized thoughts as I do not seem to be endowed with that ability and I seem to be worried about doing the wrong thing that will make me regret for the rest of my life. And I hold that Trompenaar’s cultural frameworks might have operated to prevent me from doing what I think is right.
