To those who may concern,

My name is xxx, a student of xxx department, xxx college. I am sorry to inform that I will not be able to come back for the rest of the fall semester, due to the sudden pass away of my grandfather, a very dear family member to me, on December 16th, 2014. I am now applying for transferring my schedule to the following spring semester and re-register by then, and I also hope that I am qualified to apply for a tuition transfer, which enables me to transfer my tuition of the fall semester to the spring semester.

According to Chinese traditions, as the youngest generation of the family, I have the duty to go home and stay with him and the rest of the family for a while, and it is highly possible that I will not be able to proceed with the rest of my schedule of the semester and come back to school. My grandfather was a loving man and I spent almost the whole childhood with him, we were very close to each other, and I can still recall the time we were together when I was a kid. His passing away is a great shock to me and the whole family, and I have the duty to stay with him for one last month, in accordance to my own feelings, and our traditions. I am in deep sorrow and really sorry for my absence in the following days, but this is something I must do for my family.

I understand that it will be hard for the department to make such a decision and permit my leaving in advance, but I hope that you will consider it carefully as a tiny demand from a man of sorrow in these days. I will come back and finish all the courses, assignments and tests left in the fall semester, and try my best to compensate for other necessary activities that I am not able to participate this year. Since my family is not a well-off one, and my parents have really spent much to provide fund for my studies abroad; also due to the fact that I will not finish the fall semester completely, I hereby apply for a tuition transfer to next semester. I hope that by this application I will be able to start a new semester more properly, and my family burdens can be greatly eased.

I sincerely hope that my applications will be granted for they are urgent and beyond my control, and it concerns very much the people I love. I believe that the applications will enable me to become a more promising student in the school, and that my family will be less stressful.
