Summarising和Paraphrasing的技巧

1、为什么要做一个好的Summarising？

Summarising是日常生活中常见的。它是用来描述主体的主要特征的。一个好的summary要求：selection of most important aspects/clear description/accuracy。

2、阶段性的总结

Summary是一种灵活的工具。你可以用它来给出一篇文章的outline，或者提供更多的细节，这取决于你的需求。总的来说，summary集中于main idea，不包括example或support information。在每种情况下，都需要遵循相同的基本步骤，以满足1中讨论的标准。

（1）仔细阅读原文并check新的或困难的词汇。

（2）通过underline或highlight来mark重点。

（3）记下关键点，在可能需要的地方转述。

（4）从你的笔记上写summary，在需要的情况下重新组织结构。

3、Paraphrasing

Paraphrasing和Summarising通常是在论文写作中使用的，但summary的目的是将信息减少到适当的长度，paraphrase试图重述相关信息的。举个“栗子”：

“There has been much debate about the reasons for the Industrial Revolution happening in eighteenth-century Britain, rather than in France or Germany.”

可以被释义成

“Why the Industrial Revolution occurred in Britain in the eighteenth century, instead of on the continent, has been the subject of considerable discussion.”

需要注意的是

一个有效的释义通常是：

不同于原来的结构

主要不同的词汇

保留相同的意义

保留一些常用的短语（比如：“Industrial Revolution”、“eighteenth century”）

4、Paraphrase的技巧

（1）通过使用同义词来改变词汇量：

argues > claims/eighteenth century > 1700s/wages > labour costs/economise > saving

（2）改变词序:

. . . the best explanation for the British location of the Industrial Revolution is found by studying demand factors.> A focus on demand may help explain the UK origin of the Industrial Revolution.

（3）改变字类

explanation (n.) > explain (v.)/mechanical (adj.) > mechanise (v.)/profitable (adj.) > profitability (n.)
