手把手教你看懂英文文献

很多初到国外留学的小伙伴表示自己根本就看不懂英文文献，严重影响到自己的Essay写作。对于英语不太好的同学来说，其实阅读英文文献非常讲究技巧，不然你的阅读效率是非常低的。如果大家不知道该怎么阅读英文文献的话，下面就手把手教给大家吧。

以翻阅教科书式的文献Gass为例，这种类型的文献特点比较鲜明：覆盖面广，时间跨度大，概括性强，指导性强。通过这样的文献综述，我可以锁定我需要特别关注的区域。这里就引出了文献阅读的法则：从文献综述或综述类文献开始，概览全局，缩小范围。

同学们在解决了“先看哪一篇”的问题之后，还需要找到“文献的重点应该看哪里”的问题，而要解决这个问题，我们要了解手中文献的结构，通过后文的讨论，大家会发现，这也是文献的一般结构。

第一段是这样的：Over the past few decades there have been many ways that scholars have approached the study of second language acquisition. This book, and hence this chapter on input and interaction, takes a cognitive science perspective on second language acquisition. The input and interaction approach takes as its starting point the assumption that language learning is stimulated by communicative pressure, and examines the relationship between communication and acquisition and the mechanisms (e.g., noticing, attention) that mediate between them. We begin with a discussion of the evidence requirements for learning. We then take an historical look at the study of input/interaction, and from there move to a review of recent research, followed by a consideration of how learning is fostered through interaction.

这样一细分下来你会发现处理的信息量瞬间缩水。在这些关键词的指引下，就能迅速缩小这一段内容的信息：

主要课题/视角/研究方法（锁定研究范围）

讨论的前提（保证论证的严密性，同时有自报家门的作用，因为不同的派别遵循的大前提多不同）

研究目的（明确自己要达到的目标）

篇章结构（明确研究步骤）

我们完成了对首段（摘要）的阅读，其实已经成功了一半。为什么这样说呢？因为接下来我们要阅读的正文长达25页，分为6个章节，如果我们不能很好地利用摘要给我们提供的有关文献内容和结构的信息的话，这25页的阅读将漫长、痛苦且低效。

后面我们要做的就是快速浏览一下标题，并且迅速把他们分成以下几个部分：

Chapter 1 Evidence requirements for learning

1. Evidence required for language learning:

1.1 Nature & nurture

1.2 Evidence types

1.3 Output

Chapter 2 Take a historical look at the study of input/interaction

2. The role of input in early language learning studies

最后给大家讲一个小窍门：通过浏览标题，我们可以从一个大标题下小标题层级的多少来断定这部分信息的重要与否。并不是说论文中会放大量不重要的废话（虽然很多人都这样感觉），但是为了保证行文的严密和逻辑的通顺，像定义definition, 背景background, 前提premises, 预设presumptions这样的铺垫内容有其存在的必要性。而这些内容对于学科的内行来说是不需要每一次都仔仔细细看过去的。
