Course work
  The course work in the Derivative Investment module must be used by you to demonstrate your knowledge of a specialized area. The course work topics (see below) are not going to be covered in the lectures. These are topics for self-study and the report you write is for you to discuss and explain what you have discovered.

Topics: Your report must be on one of the following subjects:

  3: Value At Risk (VAR) is used extensively in risk management technique. Discuss this topic in detail using market data to provide examples of the methods commonly used (three standard methods are risk estimation using analytical methods, historical performance and simulation).

You should include some work on VAR for risky portfolios that include investments in derivatives.
  4: Compare numerical methods for calculating derivative values. The finite difference method must be one of the numerical methods in the comparison and both
