Throughout years, a lot of people have criticized Asian Americans. Other than the difference of the appearance, in their opinion, Asian Americans have no personalities, because they are very traditional and conservative. Once talked about Asian American, the only thing they think about the fact that Asian Americans can do Maths so well, and they are so extremely diligent that they have no spare time to go out and play. For instance, several of my friends’ parents went abroad to looking for a better opportunity for their children to grow. Finally, they settled down in the United States. However, even though the children were born and raised in the United States, as well as playing with local children, there are still a tremendously preference about them which says they are too boring, conservative and not funny at all. All the feedback that people give to Asian Americans are simply because they see the way how the parents strictly treat and educate their child in a quite traditional Chinese way. Of which I consider is not fair at all to judge all the Asian Americans, especially youths.

Thus, according to this kind of opinion, I decided to write a poem to illustrate how active, funny, energetic Asian American youths are, in order to give most Americans the truth. Furthermore, as people know, there are a tremendously amount of history of poetry in Asian, especially in China. Just as people think of the stereotype of Asian Americans, I choose one of the most traditional ways to illustrate the truth ironically. If people can understand and realize how well characters Asian American has nowadays while reading my poem, then my goal is perfectly gained. There are a lot of phenomenon and reasons that I write in my poem, if people can read about it. I tend to let people know that the traditional way of educating child is not the only reason that make Asian American look like they are boring. Other than the traditional and strict way of educating, the history of sexuality plays an important role among the reasons. Just as Amy Sueyoshi said, “Narratives of Asian American sexuality have traced harrowing tales of suffering. In the first large scale Asian immigration to the U.S. in the mid-nineteenth century, men outnumbered women by nearly twenty two to one at its most extreme. Early waves of other immigrants such as Japanese, Korean, South Asian, and Filipinos who followed the Chinese had similarly overwhelming proportions of men. Historians described these deprived, lonely men as forming "bachelor societies." However, many of the Chinese men were in fact not bachelors if not lonely. Many had wives in China, while perhaps others found outlets for expressing intimacy. Prostitutes may have provided some comfort. Moreover, law enforcement officials reported finding white women lying alongside Chinese men in opium dens. A handful of wealthier Chinese successfully sent for their Chinese wives. Still others found partners on American soil usually among white women of the working class or other disenfranchised racial and ethnic minorities. The majority however, likely found companionship in the very homo-social communities of Chinatown. These intimate same-sex bonds whether platonic or sexual grew from a long tradition of Chinese men finding friendship and family in fulfilling fraternal societies.” Thus, the status of men and women in the long history of China, for example, let people have a strong concept that women should obey men, as well as being polite, mild and soft. However, with time passing, these kind of traditional women are not as usual as thousands of years ago in China. If people come to China, they can see a lot of women with character everywhere. They are independent, funny, thoughtful, considerate, and sometime argumentative when somebody has different opinion with them. Women are not as submissive to men as before. When in the past, stereotypes of Chinese women as willing prostitutes abounded. Few Chinese women could escape the label regardless of their actual status. Census takers in San Francisco recorded nearly every Chinese woman they counted as a prostitute despite evidence that indicated otherwise. Immigration and law enforcement officials also aggressively interrogated Chinese women about their sexuality to bar their entry or find grounds for their deportation. The 1870 Page Act that prohibited the entry of "immoral" women established the legal foundation to harshly scrutinize Chinese women's sexuality in particular. Thus, even Asians will not be pushed to be prostitutes anymore nowadays, how will Asian Americans be submissive and not have any characters anymore?

Even with the fact that people are in 21^st century right now, there are a lot of stereotypes that they think of Asian Americans. Secondly, what Asian people calls modest is not as easy as what American people think. In the Chinese people’s eyes, modest is a good virtue. However, Americans consider it as the fact that people neither want to work, nor to be responsible to some certain things. They think that people tend to decrease their values on purpose in the workplace or the daily life. For instance, if an American friend asks an Asian American about how his life is and how much money does he have? He will probably answer that his life is ok, even when he has over 5 million dollars. In the process of answering the question, the Asian American did not think much about it, because they are simply being modest. But in the American’s eyes, they will probably link four things as follows to that answer: 1. this man lied to you. 2. The reason why he told me the wrong thing is probably because he is afraid that I am going to borrow his money. 3. How did he earn such amount of money? Why does he tell lies to people about his financial situation? 4. Is this Asian American want to earn my sympathy and use me to do something bad and dirty? Therefore, from above, people can see that there are a lot of difference between the way American and Asian American think about a question. Thus, modest that Asian American has is called crafty in those American people’s eyes, and Asian American being polite is called boring and lack of personality.

Last but not least, the poet I wrote about American’s idea about the stereotype of Asian American’s lack of personality can be clearly found in most of the verses, and I hope people who read my poet can have a different opinion about Asian American’s personality, and have a clear and right view of their outgoing, lovable, energetic and bubbly personality
