MATTHEW WATSON
Matthew Watson was a famous Australian basketball player. He was born in 1972 in Sydney, Australia. Although his parents were both doctors, he was good at sport. He contributed his talent to Australian sport, especially basketball.
In his early life, he expressed his ability at sport. When studying at high school, he excelled in football and basketball. He also achieved academic success early. In 1989, he joined the Sydney Supersonics Under 18s Basketball Team and won the Player of the Season Award at his young age. However, in the following year, his sporting career was interrupted because he won a scholarship to the Australian National University to study Medicine. In 1992, he won a basketball scholarship to the University of Virginia, USA. Later, he also stopped his study at the college to play with the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Team, becoming a professional basketball player.
In 1996, he went back to Australia to play for the Perth Wildcats Basketball Team. After that, he wedded Maxine Brown, his childhood sweetheart. 1999 was a remarkable year for his career, he won the Most Valuable Player Award. One year later, he led the Australian Basketball Team in the Sydney Olympics. In 2003, he was inducted into the National Basketball League Hall of Fame. However, he retired from professional basketball because of injury. Then, he wrote an autobiography named Slam Dunk in the following year to tell about his life and career.
Now, he works at the Australia National Basketball Team as a coach and the National Institute for Sport, Canberra as a trainer. In the future, he will decrease his profession commissions to take care of his family more.
