With the development of history, the definition and content of imperialism runs through the process from covering mostly over the acquisition of new territories and the exploitation of located resources (S. Gertrude Millin & Rhodes, 1933, p138) to the new definition in modern ages when extended power of certain countries possess the capability to obtain manipulative or influential effects over other countries in political, economic or other life areas (V. I. Lenin, 1997,). Distinct from the old definition that concerns mostly expansion of territories and dominance over the acquired pierces of land, the new imperialism relies more upon power extension and ideological control towards other countries, turning out less intense influences but indeed producing significant effects in the long run. Nowadays some scholars argue that the United Nations has placed a control or intervention towards many countries in their economic, military and cultural areas. As long as the UN’s behaviors or decisions-makings fit into these three aspects and creates an influences on the inferior countries, it could be classified within the definition of “imperialism”.

Imperialism is closely linked with capitalism where the economic interest of certain groups or countries are protected in front of others in the means of protectionism or other (Schumpeter 1919). This fits into the category of economic imperialism. Aside from the child rights convention records from which certain level of inclination within the United Nations’ manipulative operations and standpoints in dealing with public affairs can be watched, our world contains diversified religious traditions that shall be taken into serious account by the United Nations in most of the engaged issues but indeed not (George A Lindbeck, et al 1984 p16), to create quarrels, conflicts and sense of unfairness. Honestly, the United Nations has never recognized enough the significance of relative categories to have ensured the impartiality in most of its issued measures, this fits well into the category of cultural imperialism. Last but not least, some politicians argue that nowadays in countries like Syria, the rights of the civilians and even the whole country can be sacrificed in front of United Nations interests and even bombing is allowed if permitted by the United Nations or the international law (Daniel Morley 2016), which truly depicts the United Nations’ hidden face in militarily intervene over these countries, this fits well into the category of military imperialism.

Given the ample information from the aforementioned sources, the United Nation has been noting more than an imperialism tool serves for convenience of the few superpowers in the globe. Despite the widely acknowledged concepts it proclaims to have promoted equality, peace, communication and cooperation all over the world, the organization’s behaviors in international affairs contrarily accentuate the hidden imperialism that distinctly counters its initial intentions and promises. The superior power and privileges of certain groups or countries and discriminate operations over other races or states result in fierce conflicts reflected not solely in UN’s routinely conferences but also in the actions taken towards inferior nations in many international issues, let alone the countless military actions it permits to have served the unilateral interests. To conclude, the embedded power and function of the United Nation lies precisely within the category of new imperialism. Next, the behaviors and influences of United Nation’ imperialism over different aspects of international affairs will be assessed with its governing or propelling roles, discuss the expected short-term and long-term outcomes produced by these unjustified actions and try to provide provocative suggestions to the existing problems.

The imperialism of the United Nations has produced disastrous effects which have provoked critics from all over the world, mainly towards underprivileged countries with little influences in the globe. The infamy behaviors of the United Nations against those countries can be retrospected according to the recent international affairs it engaged in. Taking the revolution of Congo in 1960 for example, it was the unreasonable intervention of United Nations mainly controlled by western countries to have exiled the leader of that Nation and retarded sending out military forces despite the calls from the Congo government but instead passively requested the invaded Belgians to leave. A case from which we can easily speculate the differentiated importance and power of the two in the United Nations; it seems that Belgians were the more powerful ones to have directed the behaviors of the United Nations, to protect its own unjustified interests from being diminished even a little but at meantime neglected the legitimate appeals from the suffered countries. The similar actions taken by the United Nations can be witnessed in many other international affairs such as Haidi Stablization from 2004 to 2014 and the Korean War Votes, which both turned out convincing evidences to illustrate the veiled unfairness and imperialism nature of the United Nations. Judging by these indecencies happened, I draw the conclusion that United Nations has been failing to meet the basic requirements in persevering the noble image it had assumed to public.
