The objective of this paper is to provides an overview of the Biblical Worldview in Paul’s letter to the Romans. There are 6 fundamental components of the Biblical Worldview in the Romans, which include God, creation, sin, salvation, ethics and eschatology. This paper will discuss the 6 key components to reveal the Biblical Worldview as expressed in Romans.

God is the predominant component of the Biblical Worldview. Romans believe that God created the world and possesses eternal power and divine nature. As the creator of the world, God dominates all the created things and is capable of giving life the dead. The immortality of God requires all the mortal creatures to be subject to him. God is truthful and veracious, offering righteousness to people who trust God’s truths with unwavering faith. People should praise, worship and serve God for gaining righteousness. God is the wisest and his judgement cannot be predicted by people. Moreover, God’s judgement is based on truth and it is impossible for human beings to escape from God’s judgement. Thus, people should believe in God’s truthfulness, then their judgement will be proved right. God will be wrathful to punish people who do not believe in God as well as wicked people who suppress truth. God’s wrath is a way to remind people to fight against sin and become a righteous person. It has no doubt that God loves all people. God’s love is expressed through the Holy Spirit. One demonstration of God’s love is that Christ is willing to die for sinful people. God only works for good of people who truly love him. God also has overwhelming sovereign over people because he is able to predestine and glorify people who conform to him. Through the Holy Spirit, people can obtain a new life even though their body dies because of their righteousness. Furthermore, God has established the governing authorities that work as God’s servants. People are required to be subject to these authorities. The only way for people to avoid punishment is to obey authorities and follow the instructions of authorities. People should follow God’s mercy rather than conform to their own desire or effort. If people trust in God, they can obtain hope, joy and peace by the power of the Holy Spirit.

In term of creation, God created the world as well as human beings by his eternal power and divine nature. However, people are not grateful for the creation and blinded by their foolishness and sinful desires. As a punishment, people become subject to the shameful lust for unnatural relations that degrades their body. People also need to endure the frustration of creation as well as suffering at the present in order to be liberated from the burden of decaying and obtain the redemption of body. For humanity, it is believed that men are wicked, evil and greedy in nature. Men are inclined to do evil things such as envy, murder and deceit, even though they acknowledge that their behavior will be punished by God. Therefore, it is important for the enforcement of the law to establish the order of the world. If people are not restricted by law, they will become completely worthless without doing any righteous things. The significance of the law lies in that people become conscious of their sin and weakness through the law.

Sin and evil are fundamental to the Biblical Worldview. Humanity is sinful because of the lack of the standard of God’s perfect goodness. Human beings cannot achieve the moral perfection of God because their deficient nature. The origin of sin is from men themselves and the desire for evil comes from within men. For the wicked people and people who suppress the truth, God will punish them according to their evil behavior. People who only focus on pursing their own desire and follow evil, there will be God’s wrath and anger against them. Men who conduct evil behavior will encounter difficulties and suffer distress.

Eventually, people who have committed sin beyond the law will perish and people who committed sin under the law will receive punishment by the law.

Salvation is another important component of the Biblical Worldview. Obtaining righteousness through faith in God is a crucial way for salvation. People can be justified by faith in addition to the law. If people have faith in God and believe in God’s truthfulness, God will credit righteousness for people. Jesus Christ is considered as a sacrifice of atonement for the sin of human beings. Jesus Christ was delivered to death because the sin of human beings and came to life because of justification and righteousness of human beings. This demonstrate a way of human salvation, showing that people can be justified through faith. Salvation can be further achieved if people live according to the Holy Spirit. Living by the Spirit can make people become the son of God, setting people free from the law of sin and death. 

In regard to ethics, the proper worship of God is to offer bodies of men as a living sacrifice, which means that men should have total commitment to God. People need to take action according to the faith in God. As people have different gifts, they should take advantage of their own gifts to serve God enthusiastically. In addition, people should love and honor each other above themselves. People should be hopeful about their future and keep patience when they suffer affliction and depression. In terms of dealing with evil, it is wrong to repay others evil for evil because righteous people are not allowed to be involved in evil things. Evil should only be overcome with good. It is also important that people conform to the governing authorities. This is because all the authorities are established by God. Therefore, it is against God’ will if people rebels against the governing authorities. Moreover, it is a matter of conscience for people to submit to authorities.

The ethics of worshiping God is actually a way of conquering the sinful nature of human beings. As discussed above, humanity is sinful and men are wicked, evil and greedy in nature. Romans offers a range of solutions to deal with human sins. For example, it is believed that one of the sin of people is that they do not have understanding, fidelity, love and mercy. The ethics of worshiping God tell people to love and honor each other, have mercy on their enemies, and build connection with people of lower positions.

Regarding eschatology, the God’s ultimate goal is that people can live with the Spirit of God in their heart. The righteous requirement of the law is that people should live according to the Spirit. If people’s mind is controlled by the flesh, they will perish as their flesh dies. However, if their mind is governed by the Holy Spirit, they are able to obtain life and peace, which means that they can live in eternity even though their body dies because of sin. The Spirit will offer life to people because of their righteousness.

In conclusion, this paper has discussed the Biblical Worldview based on Paul’s letter to the Romans. God is the predominant constituent of the Biblical Worldview, who created the world and human beings with its eternal power. Human beings are believed to be wicked, evil and greedy in nature. They need to conquer their sinful nature by diligently obtaining righteousness and trusting God’s truths as a way of salvation. Basically, the ethics and morality of worshiping God is to develop a deep faith that can stand against sinful desire of people. Although people’s body is subject to death, they can obtain life and peace if their mind is governed by the Holy Spirit.
