下面为大家整理一篇优秀的paper代写范文- A Discussion of Rejection of Mainstream American Society towards Other Culture,供大家参考学习,这篇论文讨论了美国主流社会对其他文化的排斥。

Now, the original Indian culture of America and the cultural tradition of other minority or colored immigrants have been eliminated, fused or even rejected largely by mainstream American society. In this article, it is have a discussion of why it is difficult for the mainstream American society to accept and recognize other culture tradition.

The nature of the U.S as a immigrant country produces a fear and concern of mainstream American society towards later immigrant cultures and culture of the local Indian people. Before the European immigrants came to America, the local culture of America was the Indian culture, and the European culture brought by the immigrants was a sort of foreign culture. But later it evolved into culture of mainstream American society after historical development and colonial expansion spanning nearly two centuries. In this sense, although culture of white persons is now claiming to be the main body and mainstream of American culture, they should be included in foreign culture. White people established the United States and established advantageous position in economic and political field, there was formation of their own culture as the new local culture and denial of culture of the local Indian people. There was building of government school, government propaganda and demoralization of Indian culture(Ackley, Stanciu, and Metoxen, 76,77). With the evolution of history, immigrants continue to increase. Those went to North America early declaring that they are Americans, and later immigrants are outsiders. In the cultural identity, they also call themselves mainstream culture, and those of later immigrants were known as foreign culture. The problem of migration is a very complex issue, and this gap between early and late immigrants reflects the difference between indigenous and foreign cultures. Because of the difference and even the existence of competition among those different cultures, in face of the continuation of the wave of immigrants, new immigrants are related with foreign cultural factors. And when later immigrants brought a new foreign culture, these new foreign culture is either constantly absorbed, transformed and integrated or rejected by the American culture. Therefore, the American culture is a continuously carrying out the integration of Indian local culture and foreign culture.

The sense of mission in religion also make it difficult for other ethnic culture to be accepted. American mainstream culture usually refers to the thinking and behavior patterns of middle class white male. It is generally believed that the mainstream culture of the United States is the so-called WASP culture, namely the Anglo-Saxon-white-Protestant culture. American Protestant culture is a culture with its root and basis from Europe despite that after a long period of integration of different cultures. But for the mainstream American society, both the Puritanism and the democratic idea from Europe is dominating, and the mainstream American culture can be regarded as a part of European cultural tradition, which influences the philosophy, art, economic thought and many other areas of American mainstream culture. Also, the ancestor of immigrants proposed the creation of “A City upon A Hill” in North America. Puritans remain to be a key force in American society(Finley). Thus the Americans have always regarded themselves as the nation of God's choice. This nation is not only shouldering the mission of the American nation itself, but also the model of the rest of the world. She will fulfill the contract with God - to save other peoples. This American nationalist ideology and religion is irreplaceable.

Racial discrimination is also a factor that prevents the American mainstream culture from absorbing other ethnic cultures. American racial discrimination within culture is obvious given the prominently different cultural habits and cultural background of the Caucasian, yellow and black people each. Although the blacks speak English and believe in Christianity, they are still excluded from the mainstream American society and are not integrated into the mainstream culture of the United States. There was even racial discrimination in criminal justice system as Alexander once observed (Alexander, 80, 81) . Thus, a large number of the American whites are still under the influence of racist ideas still today, and the phenomenon and case of discrimination against blacks and yellows are evident. There is also a special manifestation of American racial culture of discrimination, that is, ethnocentrism. The so-called ethnocentrism means that some people have a sense of superiority to their own race and culture. The appearance of new immigrants were depicted as inferior to the early immigrants(Ross, 42). This sense of superiority leads to a narrow and conservative sense of social ontology that allows people to hold on to other cultures and make people think that their culture is normal. They often respect their culture and deny other cultures. Due to the existence of class and race as an undeniable fact, the relationship between American class culture and racial culture has not yet reached the level of equality.

American mainstream society and its culture is marked by its exclusivity both in history and nowadays.During the forming of a immigrant country, the Americans have been sticking to WASP's ideas, trying to drive the culture of local Indians and colored minority of the American continent as a result of racial discrimination, sense of mission in religion and American superiority.
