Although there are a tremendous amount of communicational areas, and there are a lot of different ways for people to communicate, they all conveys one concept that everything in this world has one more aspects for people to be communicated with.
Communication is a diverse discipline which includes inquiry by social scientists, humanists, and critical and cultural studies scholars. The discipline of communication focuses on how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts, cultures, channels, and media. When people communicate, they exchange each other’s idea and transfer them into their own opinion. Maybe in the process of communicating, there might be some arguments and quarrels, it still of great importance for people to communicate both orally and in written forms. Also, communication is a way for people to express their ideas as well as being extrovert and positive when facing the world.For example, I have a friend who is 20 years old. He was very introvert for over 18 years. Every time I see him, he is too shy to speak a word. I was very worried about his situation, so I invited him to come to a chatting club with all sorts of different people with different age and different personalities. No wonder he would not want to open up his mouth and communicate with people at first. However, I know he likes music so much. Thus, I encouraged all the people to start to talk about music. He finally showed interests in it and begin to express his own idea in gradual. After that time, I ask him to come to the chatting club twice a week. Now after 2 years, he completely becomes another person. He is very extrovert, outgoing and positive.
Communication is a systemic process in which people interact with and through symbols to create and interpret meanings. Thus, there are a few examples that I want to talk about. First of all, the clock radio jars you awake. It’s an American hip-hop band called D12. The last few bars of “My Band”. The laughing dj shouts at you that it is 7:41 and you’d better get going. However, before you do, he adds, listen to a few words from your friends at Fry’s Electronics, home of fast, friendly, courteous service—“We will beat any competitive price!” From those examples above, people can clearly know that communication plays a very important role in both people’s live and business’s future. Thus, according to this, people can summarize that communication is everywhere in people’s lives.
There are many type of communication in this category. I choose two among all these types to compare and contrast. Theatre and drama, and the visual communication. Speaking of Theatre and Drama, the communication in drama is very different from our usual communication. Thus, even though people can not talk or communicate with the real characters in that play back in the history, from the drama in the theatre, the actors and actresses will lead the audiences into that play unconsciously, and let them into the situation that they can actually communicate with the people back in the history. Moreover, speaking of the visual communication, it is a study of visual data, such as architecture, photography, visual art, advertising, film, and television as it relates to communication. Take photography for example, every photograph tells a story. As far as I concerned, communication is not only about people, it is also about object and heart. If people feels something when looking at the photo, it has already been communicated deep in his heart.
For example, in the digital arts communication specialization, students learn how to design with digital images, hypertext, sound, and video. And most important, they learn to design, develop, and test media for a wide variety of businesses and professions, ranging from the high-tech sector, to corporate communications, to the creative industries. So why take Digital Arts Communication? Because digital technologies are rapidly changing how we communicate – both in our personal and professional lives. Using digital technologies, professionals in almost every field need to reach more people, using richer media, in more interactive ways. As parts of Honors Arts and Business Co-operation, the Specialization in Digital Arts Communication provides students with the knowledge and skills required to design communication for an increasingly digital world.
As for the classification of communication, there are a tremendous amount of categories. The areas of emphasis differ from one institution to another, but listed below are some of the most common areas of study. I will list some of the common areas: applied communication, communication education, electronic media, health communication, international and intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, legal communication, organizational communication, political communication, speech communication, theatre and drama and visual communication. Even though these areas of communication differs from one another, it all has the common aspect that they can communicate with people in different ways.
Take electronic media for example. Young people use modern technologies in increasing numbers to communicate with their friends. Text messaging and online chats have become the preferred method of youth communication. A California State University and UCLA study indicates that for young people face-to-face interactions are less desirable than modern modes of communication. This preference could cause an inability to form lasting friendships or difficulty understanding social cues. Others believe that modern technologies increase communication and therefore strengthen friendships.
There are an increasing number of communicative problems in our daily life with the development of society and the improvement of the transportation. In the first place, it is the cultural difference mainly contribute to the communicative problem. In other words, communicating in a different culture is sometimes difficult because we may not understand the authentic culture and the same behavior may means something different from what it means in our own culture. What’s more, the educational background and growing environment also give rise to it. Furthermore, the way of thinking also result in it.
For the effects of communication, I would like to present an example of negative one. Technology can create elaborate social networks online, but these can unexpectedly lead to social isolation. In some cases, communicating online replaces face-to-face interaction for users, reducing the amount of time they actually spend in the company of other human beings. In addition, these social networks sometimes replace a small number of strong social connections with a larger number of much shallower connections, leading to situations where a user may have large numbers of "friends" but few actual real-world companions. This can lead to depression and feelings of loneliness, and the lack of a support system can make it difficult for users to reach out and find help for these issues.
In all, although there are a tremendous amount of communicational areas, and there are a lot of different ways for people to communicate, they all conveys one concept that everything in this world has one more aspects for people to be communicated with.-M
