Abstract

Fierce argument and debate on whether or not the evidence of life existence is found on Mars has never been off the headlines of main stream and academic scientific field.

Some scientists and researchers suggest that no evidence of life existence can be found on the surface of the red planet, according to the astonishing images of surface of the Mars sent back by satellites.

Water and signs of volcanic activity deep below, however, has been discovered gradually in recent years of exploration. If the latest knowledge on the planet is right, then perhaps there has been life on Mars. It means that life could exist on the planet.

Mars, I personally maintain, is alive. Missions to the Red Planet are being well planned and implemented smoothly by top researchers worldwide together. It’s undoubtedly that signs of life will be not so hard to find as the researches go further. Its greatest secret will be unveiled.

Introduction

People have abundant of imaginative knowledge about life on Mars. Mission to Mars[1] is a 2000 science fiction film directed by Brian De Palma. It depicts, in 2020, a team of astronauts explore the planet for the first time. An unexpected incident, however, occurred in the adventure.

Further, a novel entitled ‘Martian Time-Slip’ [2] displays the fascinating picture of how human beings survive on the environmentally severe Mars, where live various kinds of dangerous creatures and aboriginal people.

These are scientific fictions after all.

In fact, Mars is not suitable for any form of life, since the climate is threatening, according Mr. Charles Q. Choi, a researcher with Space.com.[3] Mars is much colder than Earth, because it is far from the sun in distance. The average temperature is about minus 80 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 60 degrees Celsius). The carbon-dioxide-rich atmosphere of Mars is also roughly 100 times less dense than Earth's on average. Such claim has been popular in the industry till now.

We, however, should exert more effort on understanding the Mars to help us know better on the chances of discovering life on the planet. I want to dig more about possibilities of life existence on the red planet from this investigation.

As we know, planet like Earth can support various kinds of living forms, from fishes to birds, from human beings to bugs. The purpose of this essay is to find out- Is the Earth only planet in the universe to allow the existence of life? My hypotheses are Mars have chances to become our next home and the myth should be cracked in the future.

Process of Research and Source

In this study, I chose several authoritative and academic websites and written resources where the red planet is thoroughly studied.

I will analyze the possibilities of life existence on it by using facts, and data and pictures collected by the satellite and astronauts.

Then, I will show the possibilities of life on Mars.

Dark Side of Mars

Mars is considered to be much like the earth.

William Herschel [4] discovered that Mars is tilted on its axis and therefore has seasons, which the Earth has too.

Some thought the dark areas were holes, others thought they were seas.

Giovanni Schiaparelli of Italy believed that the dark areas on Mars were seas. [4]

Some scientists maintain that dark areas prove that life might still exist there, since the Earth and Mars are too similar in many aspects.

The most public scientific claim for life on Mars came in 1996. Geologist David McKay at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston and his colleagues find some kinds of bacteria, and tiny structures that resembled fossilized microbes.

However, these claims have proven controversial, and there is no consensus as to whether they are signs of life.

NASA announced on September 29th, 2015 that it had found evidence of water on Mars. “Oceans on its surface provide an environment for life to develop,” researchers suggest that liquid water may be present underground, although the red planet is a cold desert today.

Conclusion

From this study, we know that Mars have hard evidence of water so form of life could be proved further. I am happy that my hypothesis is right. I have learned and gained valuable experience and knowledge on the red planet. This study successfully shows that rather than a dead and cold red dessert, Mars is more like the Earth in aspect of the existence of flowing water, which can definitely support the form of life. His investigation seems so simple but it related to many important scientific facts and latest research result like I said, life may be found in the red planet in the future, but we still may take big steps to explore and prove. Furthermore, if there are any chances, I want to observe and study the planet more closely in the future. All in all, in my opinion this study can be practical and useful for exploration of the red planet, allowing us to know more about the universe.
