When Divorce Hurts When Divorce Hurts Moments are like rocks. Events shape our lives like stones tossed into a pond. Most days just hold pebbles for us, but every so often a boulder plunges into out life. That is exactly what happened to me as a freshman in high school some seven years ago. While studying with my tutor at the dining room table on a random spring afternoon, I heard a quiet phone conversation seeing from the kitchen. My mom was talking to someone, but I wasn’t sure who was on the other end of the call. I did not have to make out the conversation to know something was very wrong. Instead of hearing her normal voice, which is clear, distinct and full of life, I heard a soul who sounded completely defeated by circumstance. Even though I knew I would not be able to ignore the situation for long, I wished it away. That worked for only a few minutes. During those minutes, my Mom left to make a quick run to the grocery store.
