Nationalism Nationalism After the war of 1812, Nationalism was like a widespread disease throughout the United States. People throughout the country were showing their red, white, and blue in many ways and forms. This pride seemed to stay surprisingly strong up through 1824. There was a new era in the air and it was called Nationalism. The first major event after the war of 1812 that brought out the pride of ones country, was the new capital being built. The British had burned down our old one during war, which was the heart of contempt with many Americans. The new capital was built bigger, better, and more beautiful than the first. This helped to raise the spirits of all Americans. Along with a new capital springing up after the war, humanities seemed to make its début in America around this time. The first actual American literature begins to appear. Instead of shipping over British books, Americans got to read books from their own country for the first time. People like Washington Irving who wrote The Legend of Hollow, and James Fennmore Cooper who wrote The Last of the Mohicans, made their fist appearances on time, women, first, family, americans, work, home, about, new, during, country, brought, american, war, sent, out, nationalism, good, children, books, become, while, throughout, seemed, school, people, outside, making, longer, less, capital, better, being, around, appear
