Human Resources Human Rights Commission Ruling 1. Under the Human Rights Code, everyone has the right to be treated equally in employment. Nevertheless, everyone must be granted access to the same opportunities and benefits, and to be treated with equal dignity and respect. Race, colour, place of origin, ethnic origin, sex, religion, sexual orientation, age, record of offences, marital status, family status or disability are not justifiable reasons for employers to use to discriminate against their employees, or applicants. Some exceptions though do apply. The right to equal treatment in employment applies to every aspect of the employment relationship, including: · Job applications, · Recruitment, · Training, · Transfers, · Promotions, · Dismissals, including layoffs, · Pay and benefits, · Performance appraisal and discipline, and · Working conditions. This is our human rights code that we must obey by if we are to treat everyone equally. Naheed Ali Yabier has been wrongfully discriminated against by her employer.
