How Can Managers Be Most Effectively Developed' The increasing internationalisation of business and changing international organisation structures make the development of the international manager a central task for management development. Development activities must be based on a careful analysis of the needs of both organisations and individuals (Mumford & Gold, 2004). They will be aimed at meeting specific development needs rising from mangers’ performances in their present jobs or those anticipated in future assignments of greater complexity and responsibility. Managers can assess current levels of competency that they hold to identify development needs through assessment centres (Mumford & Gold, 2004). Managers need to learn relevant skills, knowledge and insights to improve work performance. They also need the chance to assess themselves by exploring their views towards career and personal life.
