Their Eyes Were Watching God In her book, Their eyes were watching god, Zora Hurston discusses the life of Janie. In chapters 1-6, Janie is married to Logan Killicks and then Joe Starks. Her marriage with Logan Killicks was setup by her grandmother and she was not very happy with it. Later on, Janie runs off with Joe Starks. Even though the two marriages were under very different circumstances, there are many similarities and differences between them. There were a lot of similarities in Janie’s marriage to Logan Killicks and Joe Starks. Both Logan and Joe treated her nice at first, but after a while they start treating her worse. When Janie first got married to Logan, he used to do all the work in the house, but later on he made her do all the work.
