Swiss Family Robinson The Robinsons, Fritz, Franz, Jack and Ernst, along with their father and mother are on their way to start a new life in New Guinea. Because he was bored with his desk job, the father left Switzerland in search of adventure. During a rough and violent storm, the cowardly crew and captain abandon the ship, stranding the family. The father seems very religious and seems to know that God will help them out. He is very optimistic. The hopeful family stays aboard the ship over night hoping that the storm will calm down by morning. In the morning the family hopes to swim to shore, but the only ones who can swim are the father and the eldest son, Fritz. He recommends the use of wooden tubs to sail across like he had often done at home. The family all gather supplies that they believe will be useful as the father constructs a “ship.” They gather objects such as guns, oats, telescope, chickens, hooks, and tools. Before they set off, they discover two great Danes that were on the ship; they fall in love with them quickly.
