Why such a young black politician with rather limited political experience can beat a veteran who has rich experiences in handling both military and political issues like John McCain? Why Obama's campaign speeches are more persuasive than McCain's?

A critical analysis of McCain and Obama's political speeches is meaningful both for linguistics and for social practices. Such a study can help us investigate the two candidates' political ideologies and the power relations hidden in their political discourse.
