Rosa Parks Rosa Parks born on February 4, 1913 had a hard life as an African American in the racist town of Tuskegee, Alabama. As a child her mother Leona McCauley raised Rosa, on her grandparents farm at Pine Level, a small community outside of Montgomery. She received a primary education in Pine Level. In 1924 she enrolled in Mongomery Industrial School for Girls known as “Miss White’s School”. All schools she attended were all black schools with white women as teachers. In 1929 Rosa leaves school to take care of her ill grandmother. In 1932 Rosa meets the love of her life Raymond Parks a barber and marries him in December at the age of 29. 1933 Rosa finally receives her high school degree. Rosa and Raymond save the “Scottsboro Boys”-nine black men accused of raping two white teens in1931. They were convicted and an all white jury sentenced eight of them to death, even though they had strong evidence that proved them innocent. All men were eventually granted their freedom but it took 20 years. In 1943 Rosa was denied after registering to vote and is denied again in 1944 but receives her right in 1945.
