Christian College Application Essay 1. Please describe your personal relationship with Jesus Christ. What does it mean to be a follower of Christ' In life most people have someone to look up to. They have someone to call their hero or someone to call their best friend. Although these people vary drymatically from person to person, such as a football coach, a youth pastor, or an teacher, they each play special roles in the peoples lives that they touch. My best friend, my hero, my coach and my teacher is the all found in one person and his name is Jesus Christ. He is the author of my life, my comforter and my protector. Without Him I would be nothing. He gives my life meaning. I have had a relationship with my Lord for about 14 years. Most friendships dont last that long. People change and as you grow older new people come in and out of your life just as easily and sometimes as quickly as the seasons. It's hard to fathom that anyone could be friends with someone for 14 years and He has never hated them and never wished they weren't his friend. Its hard to think that even when I lied and cheated He still loved me. I've never seen this relationship in any human being, but i dont need to because Jesus is all I need. For a while I was to confused to even understand what it meant to have a best friend. I have known so many humans that fail others, i couldn't even comprehend what it meant to have a friend who loved me no matter how bad i messed up. It took me a while to give my whole life to Christ. I was stubborn and I thought that I could do everything by myself. For a while I thought I had it made, I thought I had the greatest life and nothing could get in my way. But when little disasters hit I collapsed. I wasn't strong enough to stand on my own. It was almost like my life didn't have any support beams, so I easily crumbled to the ground. Jesus is my support though, I dont need anything else. I dont need to worry about earthly things and now my life has a meaning. As Im sure you saw on the previous page of my application, I have only been attending Resurrection Life Church for 2 years. I know that sounds a little weird especially with the previous statement ("...a relationship with my Lord for about 14 years"). I attended First Baptist Church for the first 15 years of my life. That was the only church I knew, because church wasn't an option in my family. Then due to problems in the church my family switched to Central Wesleyan about a half hour away. I complained as church would now take longer because of the drive home and back. I met a friend named Peter who attended Resurrection Life and decided to go along with him one week. The way I figured it, church couldn't be any worse than what I already saw. After one time there I was hooked. I felt the spirit of GOD like never before in my life. I often weep and became so grateful that God brought me to repentance with His unfailing kindness. I absolutely love my church and two years ago, if you would have told me I would say that I probably would have called you a liar. Going there is one of the best things in my Christian walk. And even though it takes an hour to get there and an hour to get home and sometimes the Pastor feels lead to make the service two hours long, I wouldn't change it for anything. I love the saturday night service, the sunday morning service, the sunday night service, and the wednesday night service. All together I average about 14 hours a week just going there, and boy, I thought an extra 30 minute drive was bad. :) I dont tell you this to brag about what an amazingly devoted Christian I am, but I did think that I should clarify the "church question" for you.
