What are you going to do if you get the permission of making three dreams come true? I think the first idea occurs to people is “Is this an Arabic Night?”. Then, here comes the problem. What do you want if it is true? The story written by W.W. Jacobs mainly narrates a family which was told that they could realize three dreams with the help of a magic monkey paw. In order to pay off the house rent, Mr. White wished for 200 pounds. Of course, he got 200 pounds next day, but at the expense of his only son’s life. Through the tragedy of Mr. White, we can find that what the writer wants to express is that “One cannot make an omelet without breaking egg.” 
 In reality, there are so many people who want to succeed or to make fortune without making any efforts, just like Mr. White. They hope that one day they could run into a big fortune and   only need to wait for it dropping on their head from the sky. At the first half of the story, Morris told the Whites that the last dream of the first man who got the monkey paw was death. He warned  Mr. White of not blaming him if something goes wrong. Morris also advised that if you must wish, wish for something sensible. At first, Mr. White did not expect that the dream would come true when nothing happened to them till next day. However, on hearing their son’s death, they indeed got 200 pounds, Mrs. White believed the magic power of the monkey’s paw. She forced her husband to make the second dream,wishing their son alive again. Soon, something knocked on their door. Mrs. White considered it was their son and struggled to open the door for him. Out of scary, Mr. White managed to make the third wish to stop her, lest that something terrible may happen again. When Mrs. White finally opened the door, there was nothing outside.

So, what’s Mr. White’s third wish on earth? Whether Mr. White did not really want his son back or the monkey’s paw didn’t have any magic power at all? Or does fate do rule people’s life? Answers to these questions remain a mystery. The writer, to my way of thinking, perhaps left room for us readers to retrospect or intended to warn us of the harm and consequence due to greedy .We should bear in mind that “No pains, no gains.”. When we wish to get somewhere or obtain something, we should strike with our own efforts to realize it. Only doing so, can we lead a meaningful and fruitful life, make the value of our existence witnessed.
