Celebration Of Womanhood Throughout the novel, Sula, written by, Toni Morrison there is a celebration of womanhood. It illustrates the various roles of women such as mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, and lovers. Toni Morrison emphasizes the altruistic behavior of women and how their behavior is demonstrated in society. The character, Eva, sacrifices everything she has to rear her children, and give them the best possible life she could provide. For, example she kills Plum to protect his manhood, and risks her own life to prevent her daughter from burning to death. Ironically, Toni Morrison introduces a new persona of a female with character Sula. Sula is selfish, and ambitious. This type of mentality is outrageous, because every women in the novel, follows the stereotypical selfless behavior of a woman. For the first time there is a woman who believes in putting herself first.
