To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell ‘To his coy mistress’ is written from the man’s perspective; he is trying to persuade the woman addressed to ave sexual intercourse with him, because she is being coy, by nothing that time is limited and they must act now. First of all, In this poem I could find metaphysical poet of character, which is ‘tone’. In Generally most metaphysical poet’s tone was showed ‘Dialogue’, also this poem began with the poet talked to His Coy Mistress or God with abrupt and reflective tone. This poem, more than any other, proclaims the character of the ‘Dialogue’. I think that lots of expression shows that this poem has metaphysical characteristic. especially; first, the speaker also associates the woman with these devouring jaws and the maggots who consume her (line 27). This decrepit female body penetrated by worms also evokes the desires of the writer himself, andsubsequently renders their love-making a crude confrontation with death. He relates how they will “like amorous birds of prey” devour one another, an image of sexual consumption that is also cannibalistic. In sequence, His celebratory and lascivious cry to “let us roll. Our sweetness up into one ball” and “tear our pleasures with rough strife” evokes ecstasy as well as antagonistic fury. His final description of consummation is a triumphant “carpe diem” that is also, disturbingly, a violent indictment of the female subject. Of cause, if you do not have a metaphysical background, I agree that sometimes phrase can be too esoteric. The overall mood of the poem was soft, gloomy but on the other it was at the summit violent. In the poem, symbols and expressions have connotations of much of the meaning. It makes that the readers whoes felt weird literally looked at each other questioningly when people enjoyed his poem. However, we couldn’t have to take one sides in our human emotions. Man who is a creature of impulse is able to feel happy and sad at the same time, also feel sad and anger. Therefore, this poem means a lot to me more than antother poem since human’s feeling couldn’t be limited only one. The third stanza finishes the transition by beginning with the word “now.” He goes from loving her forever to saying no time is left and they shall make love promptly. He then says that they are only going to be young for so long. Their love might not last forever because one day they are going to get old and they might not have the same attraction to each other. In this stanza, the man is very blunt with the women by telling her that he wants to have intercourse. The young man uses great metaphors in the attempt to get laid. He says that they need to hurry and have sex before the sun comes up, in the last dispersed effort to stress the urgency of this act of love.
