Pride And Prejudice Absolute Power Sentence X: There is a power in Elizabeth’s unwitting, slow, but steady hold on Darcy which will ultimately will grow strong enough to overcome his views on her poor status and yield a proposal of marriage. Because 3: His admiration for her beauty grows parallel to his admiration for her mind. From the onset of the story, Elizabeth is portrayed as an independent woman. Austen clearly creates the character to exemplify such a person. She is introduced into the novel as one of five sisters all of whom are in search of an eventual marriage to a respectable man. When Bingley arrives with Darcy, it seems hopeful that two of the daughters should marry the eligible bachelors. When the Bennett sisters all attend the ball held in nearby town Merryton the scene is set for the onslaught of a war of sorts between Elizabeth and Darcy. Elizabeth overhears Darcy in conversation speaking of her poorly.
