Metamorphasis Imagine waking up one morning to find that your appearance has changed. Maybe you have a big pimple, scar, or perhaps your hair is a different color. Now, try imagining that you wake up and realize you aren’t even human anymore. That is the case in Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, where the character, Gregor Samsa wakes up late for work, only to find that he has morphed into the form of a giant cockroach. Due to his appearance and actions, Gregor is set apart from the rest throughout the story. Gregor has many distinct or unusual qualities that make him unique in the story. Gregor is somehow morphed into the body of a giant cockroach. He, at first, was able to talk and communicate with his family. Later, he is unable to communicate. This makes it next to impossible to share his feelings and emotions with his family. Which makes things very hard on everyone. He doesn’t want to be a burden, but he can’t help it because he is unable to take care of himself and his family, like he was able to in his human state which is what hurts him the most.
